Hello, I'm David and I have booked a holiday to Andalucia next May. It looks lovely although i was initially concerned by some poor ratings for the Hotel Mijas on Trip Advisor. I have been reassured by Just You, and other travel sites are far more positive. Anyone been before?

I have travelled with other singles companies and all have been good with the exception of Solitaire who are dreadful. Just You gets great reviews so I am really hopeful. I would be grateful for your thoughts on the holiday, the hotel, and the company.

Best wishes,

David

Hi David,

I've been travelling with JY since 2010 and have now done 20 tours with the company - 17 with JY and 3 with sister company Travelsphere.  I think that speaks for itself - they are not perfect, but no company is.  On the whole, I think they offer excellent tours at reasonable prices.  A big bonus is that each tour is led by a tour manager, who takes all the worry out of the holiday - they organise everything so there is no stress.  If travel plans need to change, due to local conditions, they will sort it out.

The very first tour I did was to Andalucia in Sept 2010 and we stayed in the Hotel Mijas.  I think the fact that JY are still using the same hotel all these years and about 50 tours later speaks for itself.  It is not five star luxury, but it is more than adequate with a great location just minutes away from the town centre.  The food is fine, not outstanding by any means, a fairly typical buffet.  I was quite happy although some picky people did complain!  If you buy a bottle of wine but don't finish it, the staff will keep it for you the next night.

Thanks to JY I have travelled all over the world and it has changed my life.  I hope this is the start of many JY tours for you!

All the best,

Bob

Hi David- I did this tour back in 2014 and also stayed in the Hotel Mijas - as Bob says, the fact that JY are still using it after many years/ tours does give some reassurance. It’s a more than adequate hotel in a great location with lovely views ( including from the pool area). The food is adequate- I wouldn’t say it’s great- if you are after a culinary delight this probably isn’t the hotel, but the location is great and the tour is good. I’ve been travelling with JY for about seven years now and done about a dozen tours- mostly long haul- I find the benefits of the company- generally good tour managers and organisation, good hotels and good itineraries and the opportunity to travel to the far places that might otherwise be out of reach ( for me anyway!) outweigh the negatives- above all, you are welcomed in what is generally a great group of like minded people- hope you enjoy your trip!

Hi David, I too have stayed, in fact twice and both times with Just You. The first time was the week holiday Treasures of Andalusia. I liked it, and for me the food was good as they have a good salad bar which suited me fine. The hotel is not on a road where the coach can get to, so you have to walk up and down the steps to get from the bus, but the luggage is transported by the hotel in a minibus. It’s cobbled outside the hotel so anyone with walking difficulties might struggle. The views are fantastic down to the coast, as others say the location is great, just 5 mins to the village centre, and a supermarket just round the corner is handy. My second stay was on the Andalusia Golden Circle, first night, and was disappointed when during the week we were told we wouldn’t be going back to the Hotel Mijas for the last night as arranged but due to overbooking we were going elsewhere. I would happily return.

Hi David

First of all welcome to the community I have found it a very useful forum.  I did my first trip in May this year to Sicily and everything was as per the description on the website. Excellent tour and you can do as much or as little as you want. Tour Manager was very good and apart from a small hiccup with the Giro Italia cycle race everything went well. I had first class travelling companions and everyone mixed well and if you wanted a bit of time to yourself you could without fear of not being able to rejoin the group. It was such a good experience that I have booked for Tuscany next May and have been looking at Picturesque Portugal for maybe October 2018 or May 2019.  The Hotel for the Tuscany trip was changed for 2018 as I some of the reviews for previous hotel were not to special so I would infer from that if the hotel does not reach there standards the Company are prepared to change it. So enjoy the Justyou experience and more importantly enjoy your Andalucia trip. I look forward to your review on your return as this was another trip I had looked at.

All the best Paul

Hello David,

I was on the same trip to Sicily as Paul and agree with everything he said. I am also going to Andalucia in May, on the 17th, flying from Bristol. Which one are you going on?

Hi David

I too have stayed at this hotel in September 2010 and was not disappointed. It is located within walking distance of the town and the bus stop too was near the hotel in case you wanted to venture out on your own. You will always get some people who will find fault no matter how small. I take reviews with a pinch of salt, especially where hotels are concerned. A comfy bed and clean room is my priority as I personally spend very little time in the room!

Enjoy Andalucia.

Best wishes

Jaya

Thanks Bob - that's really helpful. Not sure if this is how I reply to your post but I'll give it a go.

Great - many thanks. I am not a fussy eater so I will be fine. I totally agree with your priorities.

Many thanks - what a friendly bunch you are. It was only TripAdvisor that give the hotel some stick. I value the opinion of the people here far more.

Completely agree. Sometimes I read comments about the lack of English food and cringe. As you say, if it's clean and comfy that's what matters - although this place looks to have a great location too.
