I am in my mid 50s and considering my first solo trip since losing my husband of 30 years in December 2015 but the thought terrifies me! My husband and I travelled all around the world together but there are still so many places we had planned to see. I would love to go to Peru, I was originally thinking of November this year but that's too soon, I'm not ready (I've been browsing for months but haven't had the nerve to book anything, I've only just got the guts to join the community!!), so I am now thinking about booking for May 2018. Has anybody booked this trip yet? Any thoughts, advice, etc., would be gratefully received.

Hi

You have taken the first step by joining the community and asking for advice. I have been travelling with JY since 2010 and have done six long haul and four european holidays in that time. I am working my way through a wish list and have a long way to go! Like you I was very apprehensive about travelling alone but a friend reminded me that you only regret the things you don't do.

My advice is take a deep breath and go for it!

Hi Janice, I came across your post while I was browsing for Peru in May.  I took the plunge and booked for China a couple of years ago. First time on my own but it was really good.  The nerves soon disappear. If you have always wanted to go to Peru just book it, you wont regret it.

Hi Janice

I did my first trip with JY in October 2016 and went to Peru, it was excellent. You will be very we’ll looked after by the JY team and you will soon make friends with your fellow travellers. It can be quite daunting taking that first step to travel alone but once you have done it you will not regret it.

I’ve just booked my 4th trip with JY to Cambodia and Laos in October. As the saying goes “ A journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step” you’ve taken the first step by joining the community so well done.

I hope you go ahead with your trip to Peru, I’m sure you will love it

Hi Janice,

If you keep thinking about it then you must want to do it. Please just go for it. You'll come back having had a great time and wish you had not put it off. I've done a few just you holidays and I think going to Machu Picchu was my best day.

All the best.
