Hello Jackie,

Welcome to JY, you have made the first step, the next will be choosing a holiday, somewhere you have

always wanted to go, Italy is very popular as is Spain.

You will be nervous but you won't be alone once you get to the airport and meet other people.

I have been on lots of JY holidays and have booked Calabria in May, I'm sure you will find somewhere to go

and you will have a lovely time that's almost guaranteed.

Dave.

Hi Jackie

Welcome to the fun world of JY, I started useing JY in 2006 I am now 57, and I have travelled the world from Tuscany, Kenya, USA and even as far as New Zealand, 10 tours in total..

These tours work really well, there is no need to be worried, pick a holiday that appeals to you, I tend to go for the full on tours so your kept busy all day, really read up on what's included as like the USA tours you will, need money for Lunch and Tea and drinks etc which all costs.

If you have your eye on a tour and would like more information then put a post up and people who have been can comment also look at the reviews as they can be most helpful.

I have seen the world and had so much fun, and met great people along the way.

Welcome Jackie.  Just pick somewhere YOU want to go and immediately you have something in common with the rest of the group apart from the obvious of travelling solo.  The holidays are put together really well and you will have as much or as little company as you want.  We all had to take that first holiday and no-one I have met has regretted it.

Good luck

Hello Jackie:

Welcome and just keep reading a few more threads and you’ll quickly find umpteen posts echoing your concerns precisely! We are almost all nervous the first time.

For what it’s worth, that didn’t stop me going to China my first time, followed by India the year after (and Peru last year but with its sister company) – all long-haul trips and all so exciting in their different ways, though China will, I’m sure, remain forever my “Best Holiday Ever”!

Dave, above, is absolutely right when he advises choosing “somewhere you have always wanted to go”, as it was with China for me. (Did I already mention China?) Yes, the distance did cause a little anxiety, the furthest away I’d ever been, but not enough to put me off.

You’ll also find constant remarks here praising the benefits of travelling with a group of individuals. There is always someone to talk to for as little or as long as you want to. This has been very noticeable when out on excursions and once the Tour manager or local guide tells the group “to be back here in 45 minutes”! It’s really nice to just bump into a familiar face as one wanders around exploring the site, even if just to make some passing remark.

No need for nerves – promise!

Hi Jackie

I too went to China for my first trip with JY in 2010. I was very apprehensive when I set off on this holiday, particularly as I was travelling from Scotland and had to negotiate my way around Heathrow! Having accomplished this, I went on to have a great holiday and have been on a further five long haul and one european holiday since. I am off to Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian Coast in early May and Sicily in September. I still have a very long wish list and am gradually worn by my way through it.

My advice is choose a holiday and go for it.

Hi Jackie

I can totally agree with all these comments.  I started travelling solo in March 2010 and chose NZ as it was a place I had always wanted to go to.  I decided that if it didn't work out, at least I've been to my favourite destination and I didn't have to do it again.  How wrong could I be.  Like others, I am now addicted to travelling.  I'm off to Jersey in April and Alaska in May which will be coming up to almost 20 destinations with JY!!

Happy holidays

Sylvia

Hi Jackie

Welcome to the JY club. One thing to remember is that your fellow travellers are also solo travellers and took that first step like you at some stage. It's an adventure going somewhere new and you will never be alone on a trip unless you want to be and the groups I have travelled with have been great fun.

Have fun picking your first trip and you will not regret it.

Hello,

My name is Eva and it is also my first time travelling with JY. I have travelled on my own before but I found it a bit lonely at times so I thought I try it this way.

Going to Sicily May 24th. Really looking forward to it.

Go wherever you fancy. You will be well looked after.  My first trip was to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Very hectic but fabulous. Have since done five more.

If you are not very adventurous just try a week's break in Europe. You will not regret it. Polly

Hi

Just choose a place you always wanted to see and go ahead and book it. I always wanted to see Petra so chose Jordan as my first solo trip with Just You in September 2009. I too was nervous and a bit apprehensive but all the fears disappeared as soon as I reached the airport and met the Just You representative and then some of the fellow travellers. Go on, give it a go. You will have no regrets. Life is too short to worry about little things.

Hi Jackie, welcome to JY.  Hope you have found many people on here who are helpful and friendly.

Do you have any idea whereabouts (country, continent) you would like to go, or the duration or type of holiday (city, beach)?  When choosing my first trip with JY, I looked for somewhere in Europe (short flight, familiarity with language) and with a duration of 4 - 8 days (I thought it might be lonely, especially in the evenings - in reality, half the group met up for dinner).    It was my first holiday alone, so I wanted to start with a small step. It depends on what you're comfortable with, as some people are confident travellers who don't hesitate at flying halfway around the world for 2 weeks.

Look around the forum for any tips/ reviews of holidays and post if you have a question - most people seem happy to say hi even if they are not going on that particular holiday.

Once you've booked, JY will send you the confirmation and itinerary (including some information and tips for the destination) and you can always call to make any changes/ ask questions.

Look for any JY tags at the airport and start chatting!  People will naturally start to socialise once the Tour Manager has gathered the group.

I hope you find a holiday that suits!

P.S. I ended up going to Berlin and loved it (think I posted a review on here).
