Hello, my name is David. I am fifty two years of age, relatively shy and thinking seriously about going on a singles holiday next year and was just looking for some thoughts on how other people have found the experience to be.

Hi David

Have been travelling with JY since 2010 and have done 5 long haul and 1 european trip so far. I have a long list of places I still want to visit and will continue to travel whilst I can!!

My advice is pick a holiday and go for it. Everybody on the trip will be travelling on their own for a variety of reason. On the whole I have found groups mix well but you can have time on your own if you wish.

Hope this helps.

Hi David. And welcome to the JY forum. It's great that you have come on here to ask the question.

So. My first trip out with JY was to Cilento Coast. I love Italy, and it was an area I had not been to at all. I love places that are relatively unspoilt, and this place is still. I found the experience very good on the whole. It was nice on the first evening to have a welcome drink which helps I think for people to get talking to each other. Also eating together helps too. You mix as much as you want to really. I think that the trips out help as well.

I've been away with JY since of course. Again to Cilento Coast, Istrian Coast twice, Tuscany, Costa de la Luz, Slovenia and France/Belgium Battlefields. I am aiming (although I have not booked yet) for the new Dubrovnik trip next year.

I know that folks on here will say " pick a holiday and go for it", and that is so true. I have only travelled within Europe with JY but that is my choice. I also tend to do what is called the Escape holidays, because again that is my choice. A lot of people like the full on tours because they are seeing something different every day. Personally once I am in a hotel I prefer to be there and then go out on the trips from there.

So ask away with any questions you may have. Folks are great on here with helping out and with reassurance.

Again. Welcome!

Hi David

I took the plunge and went to NZ on my first JY holiday in March 2010. I have met so many interesting people and picked up friends along the way and have become addicted to travelling.

So, I suggest you pick somewhere you really want to go to, book and then forget about it until the holiday comes.

Enjoy

Sylvia

Hello David

I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a holiday. Just You specializes in holidays for single travellers, it's not necessarily for people who are single, some are married but their partners don't want to travel abroad, you can be younger or older than your fellow travellers, there are all sorts of reasons people travel with Just You, it's all about having the company of like minded people on which ever holiday you choose. The great thing is, that for the most part, you don't know your fellow travellers beforehand so everyone is in the same boat and people usually get along extremely well, although on the odd occasion you might get someone who doesn't, but that's the exception rather than the rule. You are never on your own unless you want to be, nearly everything is organized, if there are any problems your Travel Manager will do their best to sort them out, and to my mind it is a very safe way to travel.

If there is a particular holiday you fancy I say give it a go, if you do and it's not what you are looking for then at least you will know, rather than sit back and miss out on having what could be a really good time. I was extremely nervous booking my first holiday but I've never looked back since, I've been to places I had dreamed of and never thought I would see and can't wait for new brochures to come out to choose where I want to go next.

Go on give it a go.

Hi David,

Welcome to the forum.

Making the decision to go on a group holiday for the first time is never easy and think we were all a bit apprehensive before our first trip. Its a big decision and would imagine a lot of people actually don't take the plunge because of been shy.

My first was Americas Golden West, really loved it and everyone got on well, booked my 2nd hol on my return and am now well into double figures. Have made many friends along the way.

All i can say is pick a hol you fancy and go for it, what is a week or so out of your life if you find it isn't your cup of tea (doubt that would happen).

If you don't you'll never know what you have missed out on, only one way to find out.

You will find many people that feel same as yourself and that everyone gets on so well.

Hi David and welcome

There are many postings on here about our experiences. I have been useing JY since 2006 I am now 56 and have done 11 tours from Battlefields in France to New Zealand and all in between.

All the tours have been amazing I have seen and done so much, from helicopter flights over New York and The falls in Canada. Graceland, concentration camps in Poland.

I choose the full on tours so I am kept busy in the day seeing and doing things.

There normally is more ladies than men on a tour..

Some people you will gel with others maybe not but that's life.

I have met so many lovely people along my travels, and have had amazing journeys with them,

Any questions just ask.

Hi David

I would add that just pick a destination you always wanted to visit and book it. Travelling with Just You is worry free. You will meet people of all ages and experiences and will have lots of fun along the way. If you are very nervous, then pick a short European holiday before venturing further afield. My first trip with Just You was Jordan as I always wanted to see Petra. Since then I have been to Andalucia, Cost de la Luz, Israel, Italian Dolomites and Croatia, Calabria, Istanbul/Troy/Ephesus, Marrakech, Namibia, Battlefields and am going to Kerala in November. I have enjoyed each and every holiday I have had with Just You.
