Hello,

I have been on the Heart and Soul last November from Chicago to New Orleans. I have also done Deep South with Thomas Cook as a single and 15 couples. Both trips memorable for different reasons. Depending on what your interests are, you usually find several people who want to do the same as you. Most of the tours are included, several people have been before so will often go and see something they want to see. I collect pins and my daughter shot glasses from Hard Rock Cafes- I went on my own to Chicago and St Louis, Memphis- Keith and I had a meal there and a drink at New Orleans.

Some tours have group bookings in the evening. We had pizza one night, Buddy Guys' Legends in Chicago and the Jazz cruise on the Mississippi in New Orleans. One night I went with Keith to the ice hockey in St Louis, great fun. Read the different threads on the reviews- this might help you make up your mind :)

Hello

I have been on many JY USA tours. Boston New England and New York, East Coastliner, Florida, Nashville Memphis Graceland, and Canada New England with New york add on.

I have seen so many things and done so much helicopter rides, Niagra falls etc, seen so many things and met so many nice people along the way.

I have been on 11 tours since 2006 travelling as a single traveller (I have husband at home) works really well for me, it's very safe your looked after and it's great fun. Any other questions just ask.

Give it a go and see what you think

Hello,

Was on the Heart & Soul trip with last year my 5th American touring holiday with JY.

Unless its one of the organised nights people tend to do their own thing in the evenings, not on their own but in mini-groups that develop naturally between like minded people.

The 5 US hols I've done have been great and it wouldn't be easy to pick a favorite.

My first was American Golden West, actually my first JY hol and what got me coming back. Great Cities mixed with changing scenary from coast to mountains to desert, loved it.

Parks & Canyons - Phoenix to Vegas, loved every minute but 8 nights i thought too short.

Route 66, Iconic something i had to do, some nice places but the scenary forthe most part is actually a little boring, the places you see and stop at along the route along withsome small museums and a few charactors you meet make up for it.

National Parks - Well the other holidays are hectic but this really is living out of a suitcase, but unfogettable all the way some cracking places i've not even heard of along with more famouse parks.Of course i'm a western fan so places like deadwood,LBH, Monument valley i loved.

Heart & Soul - Another of my loves is Blues music so this is the Blues Highway (well actually you go along the interstate not route 61). Chicago, St Louis, Memphis & New Orleans all very different but all worth visiting in their own right (don't expect too much scenary in between).

One comment for JY this needs another night and would suggest the Vicksburg or Clarksdale areas (memphis to New Orleans is too far for one day), add a visit to the Blues museum (clarksdale) on the extra day and this holiday would be signficantly better.

I have read your blog and found it very interesting.

Have you done both travelsphere and just for you? Would you recommend just for you or do the travelsphere holidays have singles on not just couples.

I was on Travelsphere's San Francisco to Vancouver tour in May,the split was about 50/50,but,it would depend on the tour. Some of Travelsphere's tours differ slightly from the JustYou equivalent, and there are more tours run by Travelsphere like the tour I did or the Great Lakes.

I think you will find the ratio will be many more couple to singles, if you have your eye on a specific tour ask on the editors board and they will be able to let you know how many couples and single travellers there are.

Good luck

Each tour varies. Included dinners are taken as a group, otherwise, people tend to split into smaller groups and do their own thing. On all of the tours I have done where an evening meal wasn't included, the tour managers have suggested a time to meet in reception, and made sure no one would be eating alone.

Hi Kelly,

I agree with what people have already said. I've done two Travelsphere holidays and reviewed them both - I've just come back from the Balkan Peninsula tour with them and my review is currently at the top of the Reviews forum if you'd like to have a look at it. The number of single travellers on a TS holiday varies from none to quite a large number, possibly even 8 or 10 - the number tends to be higher when it is a tour that has no Just You equivalent for obvious reasons. But even if it is a tour that has a similar or identical JY version, there are often one or more single travellers.

I've done 11 JY holidays, with 2 more booked and they would always be my first choice. Whether it is a TS or JY holiday and dinner is not included, the tour manager usually makes a suggestion as to where people might like to eat - but this doesn't always happen! I've found on JY holidays people usually break up into smaller groups or pairs and head off to eat together when there is no dinner provided. When dinner is included, everyone eats together as a group. On a Travelsphere holiday, there is a chance if dinner is not included that you could be left on your own to eat if you didn't make arrangements with others to eat with them (whether a couple or some of the single travellers). As I said in my latest review, I would be happy to do a TS holiday if it was half board, so I would be sure of having company for dinner.

Hope this helps! I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

Best wishes,

Bob

Kelly,

Only been on one Travelsphere holiday (Croatia) a few years back and that was with a friend (female). Although we were both singles for all intent and purpose we were a couple so easily accepted into the group.

There were no other singles in the group and don't believe i would have enjoyed it as much if i was totally solo.

I would rather travel totally solo and not with a company rather than a group full of couples, maybe they wouldn't mind but i wouldn't feel right.

Mick

ps: Pleased you enjoyed the blog
