Hi everyone, I'm completely new to all this solo travelling, but after finding this website and reading your reviews I am excited to try a holiday on my own. Any recommendations for my first one

Hello and welcome my suggestion to you is pick a tour that you want to do be that near or far. I have been on 11 tours from Austria, Kenya, New Zealand and all in between, all have been great fun and I have seen so much in a very safe way, if you have any other questions just ask.

Go for somewhere you have always dreamed of going to. That will help with the inevitable pre-trip nerves. Once you've done your first one, the rest is easy, although be aware that these trips are truly addictive.

Hi Mae

There are so many different options/destinations to choose from. I had already drawn up a wish list and when I took early retirement in 2010 decided to " go for it"! My first trip was to China followed by USA India and New England and Canada. Went to Apulia last year and am returning to India (Kerala) this year. My advice is choose a trip and book it. You will meet lots of interesting people and see great places.

Hope this helps

Hi there Mae, and welcome to the forum. I would suggest the Cilento Coast, as the whole thing is fab, including the newly added spa. I have not done any long haul yet, but am looking forward to number 7 short haul holiday (Greece in October)

You will enjoy whatever you choose, I suspect.

Hi Mae.

Cilento Coast was my first trip with JY and it's wonderful. I have been twice. 🙂 You didn't say whether you will be making a trip this year or not but I think that it may well be pretty booked up this year as it is so popular.

Costa de la Luz is also a very popular trip and it would be a relatively gentle one to do for your first trip.

Highlights of Tuscany is great, although the hotel is a little basic, the staff are wonderful and the food is very good. Most of the trips are included, and you do get to see an awful lot in the time that you are there.

Personally I am off to Istrian Coast again in September, because I love it so much.

So as others have said pick something you fancy and go for it. You will not regret it.

Hi Mae

Welcome to our happy band!

As the others have said, there is certainly plenty of options to choose from. First you need to consider whether you want a long or short haul trip, how much leave you can take (assuming you aren't retired), how much you want to spend and whether you'd prefer a touring trip, taking in lots of places, or sticking to a more relaxing pace in one destination.

My suggestion, if you are up for a long haul trip, would be 'America's Golden West'. This is a cracker, it was one of my first and I know many people who have also done it and loved it. It is also a good way to build your confidence travelling because it is an English speaking country and, other than the ESTA, you don't need to worry about visas, jabs and malaria pills etc.

Whichever you decide on, there are bound to be fellow JYers on the Forum who have been before and can offer you their tips and Julia will always be able to answer your questions from the Company's side. If all else fails and you can't decide, close your eyes, stick a pin in the brochure and have an adventure!

All the best

Mandy
