I was wondering what my fellow teachers make of JY's offerings for Summer 2014.

I was initially excited, but when I started to look into dates, I am going to struggle to find a JY holiday to go on.

I really want to go with JY but there are very few 7 night holidays on offer which appeal to me and which I haven't already been on once or twice!

I'm essentially restricted to one or two of the city breaks (Florence and Berlin both appeal) and the Albi 5 night job would be perfect if it was a 7 nighter!

I could always repeat Garda, Apulia or Austrian Lakes, or tackle the Prague, Vienna Budapest holiday(but I really don't fancy the inevitable 3 hotels and lengthy coach journeys).

What are your feelings?

Hi Gwyn,

Same old, same old, isn't it?!

There was a recent mailing from JY with some selected holidays and there was just ONE departure date to one place that was in the school hols!

I went to Russia last summer which was in August, that was a destination that I was keen to visit so that worked out ok.

I have no idea what I'll be doing yet, I do fancy the Berlin weekend so will probably go for that, and I'll have to look at alternative companies I think.

Hi

Calabria, opposite side of Italy to Puglia is great, and there is a 3 July on offer. Well worth it if you like Italy.

Hope you find something,

Sylvia

You're right, it is a bit same old, same old!

I got a bit overheated when the new holidays were announced because on the website there was a Croatia holiday in early August, but that was a mistake! It would have been a chance to go somewhere new.

If I remember correctly, Berlin is only dooable in the Easter break, which is fine.

I like to get away for at least a week in the Summer, and that remains a real problem with this selection.

Are your choices curtailed by having to be present at GCSE and A level results days? I can get away with only being there for one, but am expected for both...

Thanks for the reply! I would like to go to Calabria, but sadly am still very much at work in early July! What I've got is a window from mid July to mid August, hence the difficulty!

I may repeat Garda, but we'll see....

Sorry, I forgot. I am in Scotland and school holidays here are from end June to mid-August

Hi. i am training in the nhs and have a similar issue however i understand JY's point of view. They could put more dates on however the cost would be extortionate. I am on your side because i really want to go on the new Slovenia and Croatia Trip.

I guess you just have to think of how many people would be willing to pay the high prices.

Hi Gwynn,

I haven't checked the dates but have you tried the Highlights of Tuscany trip? I was there earlier this year and had a great time.

Hotel was really good, the Tour Manager exceptional and all the tours wonderful.

Good luck in finding something to suit.

Thanks for the great suggestion, no date during the Summer hols though! I am considering Tuscany in the Easter break, but the temperatures will still be quite chilly there at that time of year. I like it HOT:cool:!!

I have found that JU do not offer a great deal of choice over the Easter or summer holidays because of the increase in prices. However I have found that there are other specialist single travel companies that do offer a greater choice. This means that very reluctantly I am using another company for trip next year in April.

Hi Gwyn, Tuscany is ideal for the easter holidays for me as well, however i agree with you, i doo like a degree of heat, so i am doing Russia instead. Having said that, take a look at the temperatures in April because i believe they are still quite high. Travelsphere do more tours in the summer so if you dont mind travelling with couples then that is always an option. There are normally quite a few people travelling alone anyway.

I really want to go on the Slovenia tour and Makarska Riviera but am going to have to wait till i graduate. Tis a bummer!

Hi Gwyn,

You really don't want it too hot because there are usually so many people around, seeing the sights, that can be quite warm-making in itself.

If you can make it during the Easter holidays, do go for it. You will have a great time.

Good luck

Denise

I agree the selection for the summer is same old, same old and very limited. I have done China, Puglia, Vietnam and Prague, Vienna and Budapest. There are only really city breaks available for August. Due to the lack of choice I have now booked Italy for Easter and am going to Cuba with a different company in August. I love travelling with JY but have run out of options.

Hi pardon for butting into this coversation, but as a former teacher I do have some sympathy for you. Have you checked the new brochure carefully as I've been scanning through it the last couple of days and saw quite a lot of European holidays in the mid July-August period - or perhaps you've done them all already? I agree there aren't many long haul choices for this period, but as I understand it JY have difficulty in striking deals for single occupancy of rooms with many hotels and therefore are limited to the tours they can run. And, as some others have mentioned, prices tend to be a lot higher during the summer months and at other peak holiday times! Hope you find something that suits!

All the best,

Bob

Hi Bob! I certainly don't want to come across all negative, I really do understand the cost/price issues JY will have with peak time in the Summer. I agree with you that there are some JY holidays during that time, but, of course, no one will fancy every holiday - I'm more of a short haul European man myself for example.

I have been to Garda, Austria (twice), Apulia (twice) with JY. In 2014, I will probably do Tuscany in April (I'd prefer to do it in the heat of Summer), and Garda (for the second time).

My other constraints are that I can't really be bothered with all the hassle of going on holiday for less than 7 nights, and, of course, I really have to be at work for GCSE & A Level results!

Having tried other companies, I much prefer JY but I think that in 2015 I really will have run out of options and take my money elsewhere. hey ho.
