I have been on the Austrian Lakes holiday and posted many times on here about this tour..

SO what iffy thing's have you heard about this hotel then??

When I stayed there my bedroom looked out over the lake which was a stunning view. A Balcony.

There is no lift, you are either on floor one or floor two the ground floor is reception and eating rooms etc.

I had a double bed and a single bed in my room.

Plenty or wardrobe space.

Plenty of tea/coffee etc and ketle and cups, there was a small table and couple chairs to sit at.

A very Large room all in all.

Bathroom very clean and tidy.

So not sure what you have heard, but I can be fussy at this hotel my room was a defo 10/10.

Breakfast was self service for the most part, ample to choose from. I night they did a BBQ outside for us all. I think you choose the night before what you want to have the next night to eat from a selection of meals. I am a vegetarian so my meals ran a different way to the main group.

Its a very nice tour to go on if you like lakes and scenery it is well worth going on this tour. I have not been on the Sorrento tour.

If there are any other questions you might have just ask away and I shall try ansd answer them

I have only been to The Austrian venue, And therefore I am not able to Comment on Sorento although the name sounds wonderful. I have however been on The Austrian Trip twice and would have no hesitation of returning for a third. I am assuming you will be stopping at The Strand Hotel. As on Occasions Just You has used the sister hotel Sonne if I recall. The Strand is a very comfortable two storrie Hotel. You will either be at The Front which over looks the lake, The rear which over looks the fields toward the wooded area. Not a unpleasant view by any means. However please note there are about 4 rooms which are at the side of the hotel 2 on each floor. These are more or less under The cover of some huge trees. And you may not see very much sun from them.

All the rooms that I had seen, Were all spacious and comfortable, And kept extremely clean. I have put many a post on this site praising it.

There are stairs in the centre which are not very steep. And as my friend Cindy has said, There is no lift. I must however stress, That one thing to remember is that you are not in the UK, And respect the proprioter Thomas is very helpful, However he is set in his ways. If you like a drink at the bar in the evening, During evening meal and the folk evening then this should not be a problem. However he tends to just disappear if not to many use the bar. However there is a great little bar open to all hours about 400 yard towards the town.

I would not worry as Austria is definately a great little trip

Hi There, Any advice from those having done these trips would be welcome. Both depart in October. Have read some 'iffy' things about the hotels at both resorts. Would appreciate some guidance from 'non newbies'.

I did the Sorrento trip last year. The hotel is in walking distance of the town which is a plus. I was lucky with my room which was very nice but some are small and rather basic. The was food not good! However the holiday overall is very good. You are out and about every day and get to see lots. Sorrento is lovely and I would go back one day.

I have done both these trips. Austrian Lakes 2 years ago & Sorrento last September (birthday treat). They are both good but in different ways.

I had always wanted to do the Amalfi Drive & it was all I had hoped it would be. Plus we visited Capri, Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii & we went to Herculaneum on the train. All of these are fantastic.

In contrast the Austrian Lakes are beautiful with lots of things to see like Salzburg, St. Wolgang etc. So it really does depend on what you prefer.

As to the hotels & your worries - I had good rooms on both trips - but you know if you are not happy with your room, speak to your tour manager who could attempt to get you moved to another room rather than be unhappy. You have to realise that hotels differ immensely but don't let that put you off. To me, the company of the people you meet is as important as the room you sleep in.

Many thanks to you all for taking the time to reply, you've been very helpful. Some posts on Trip Advisor weren't very flattering about some of the rooms and proprietor in Austria and did say the food was awful in Sorrento. After your comments, I shall not let that deter me, I will now do 'eenie, meenie, miney, mo' as to the holiday I shall book first! I will then do the other resort early next year 😉

I would not overly rely on Trip Advisor to be fair. As very often on That Site. You get Hotel owners locally & surrounding areas running down the competition.For obvious reasons.

Take it from me The Hotel, & food are fine well cooked, ample and adequote. I have had the proprioter twice, And he was fine with me on both occassions. However I will admit, He is different
