I've just joined - with all the same hesitations, worries and general lack of confidence. I read somewhere that its best to take advantage of the 'getting to know you' weekends before booking a holiday straight off. I suppose its to see how you would cope in the singles environment. Do any of you seasoned travellers have any thoughts on whether this would be the best way to go?

First of all welcome to JY, I will be shortly taking my 8th JY holiday so if you have any questions please feel free to ask. When I started useing JY 5 years ago there was not the oppertunity to do a weekend discovery break. My first tour was to the USA, I just went for it. I am sure the weekends work for some people to give them the confidence to go for a main tour. I know of a couple of people that have done weekends and then straight away booked a mian tour. This is my opinion you of course need to have your own I would find a tour you like and then book it, as to me I know I would spend money on a weekend and then book a main holiday so spending two lots of money. These tours are really good fun.. There are two interveiw links on the boards here from Lovely Lesley and Nixon thats me. so Have a look it might help you. Whatever you do I hope you have fun and meet nice people in a safe way.

I just went straight onto a group trip

This company make you feel really welcome and I see no reason to spend a weekend like that.

Every group is different, so no matter what you do it will not be the same each time.

Just remember, most of the group are on the holiday because they want to travel alone without the single supliment. Enjoy yourself and make friends during the trip

Hello folks, i have too just joined although its something i've been considering for a number of years. I have never been on holiday by myself before so felt this is a way of making new friends and seeing new places whilst in the safety of a group rather than by myself. Looking forward to being part of your community!! I'm keen to go to the USA so will look more into that trip.

I have only just joined and feel it would be nice to just do the weekend break. For a start, just after Christmas, it is easier to afford and also there is something nice and luxurious about going away for a weekend. You do not have to get time off from work etc. Its a bonus. I certainly will be going on a tour during summer, but just now a weekend would suit me fine and also initiate me into being single again! Best wishes and Happy New Year, Jackie

I went in at the deep end with a holiday, didn't regret it and have now done 5.
