I've been looking at the posts for other hints and tips which have been very helpful - thanks to all who respond - but there hasn't been any mention of sockets and plugs.

Can anyone advise? I have booked for the South African Explorer and Victoria Falls trip next year (Very early so I can't chicken out - my first holiday on my own...) What sort of travel adaptor is needed? Those "Worldwide" ones I've looked at don't seem to say that they are suitable for South Africa.

I'm doing this holiday in 2 weeks time so I will try and post some details on my return. I have friends who have been to South Africa previously and apparantly they found a lot of the hotels had adapters already in the rooms.

In the meantime I have borrowed 1 adapter and bought another specifically for SA online from Amazon to take with me.

As far as Zambia is concerned for the add on to Victoria Falls, I believe their sockets are the same as the UK.

Remind me on my return when I will know for sure.

I went on this trip last year and you can find adapters suitable for SA at Heathrow airport. That's where I got mine from. You will need them for all the hotels you will be staying at. Dont know about the Victoria falls part of the holiday as I didn't go there.

Have just returned from my South African Explorer with Victoria Falls add on. What a treat you are in for. Absolutely fabulous holiday. So many highlights from beginning to end.

Don't worry about plug sockets. At the beginning in Cape Town, hotel had both South African and English sockets in the room. I took European adapter for Zambia but it was not needed. I only ever used the South African adapter which worked everywhere. I took two which was useful. Charged my camera battery every day, mobile phone and would recommend a plug in mosquito repellant especially at night for later stages of holiday. Also recommend wearing mosquito bands on your wrists. Don't know if I was fortunate but I didn't get biten once during whole 3 weeks.
