I have just returned from this holiday and a mystery still remains. The holiday was advertised (and still is) at the time I booked with an optional visit to the Dolomite Mountains which was withdrawn shortly after I booked last November. This was a subject of some speculation among the group but no definite answer, as our Holiday Director didn’t know. Suggestions included the temperature/ not much open in early season or the distance involved on difficult roads or maybe insufficient interest. It wasn’t a problem, just curiosity.
In the event the hotel at Gardone Riviera was an excellent base, close to the ferry landing for visits to all points around the lake on free days to complement the organised excursions, and also local places of interest including the botanic gardens and Vittoriale. As for the Dolomites there were excellent if distant views from our visit to Bassano del Grappa and a free day visit to the north end of the lake.
