Good morning,

So we had a bit of a chat around the office and thought this week we'd ask... apart from your passport, tickets, currency and the kitchen sink, what is the one thing you won't leave behind when leaving home and heading off on an adventure be it a weekend away, a Just You holiday or an independent trip?

We've put together some of the more popular responses below to make up our poll - Have we missed something? Let us know!

Phone & charger

I like to keep in touch with friends and family and a quick text to let them know I'm alright and having a great time is a very quick way to do this.

Multi-socket adaptor

Everything is driven by power and needs charging at the end of each day - my phone, my camera this makes sure I'm not "powerless" for my next day of adventures.

Umbrella/Suncream

The weather can be unpredictable and like a boy scout I like to be prepared - whether it is sunshine or rain - I'm ready!

Camera

I love being able to capture memories of my trip with a photo.

Notepad/journal & pen

I like to be able to make a note of where I've been and what I've seen so when I look back on my holiday in a few weeks/months/years I can remember as much of it as possible.

Favourite biscuits/sweets

I like to take a home comfort with me. You never know when you are going to need an energy boost while out sight-seeing or a quick sugar-rush before dinner.

Good book

I find that reading a chapter of a good book at the end of the day or in some spare time is the perfect way to relax.

iPad / Laptop

I use my ipad/laptop as a journal while I'm away, and when I'm connected to the internet, it means I can skype my family and  I can post my pictures on my social media pages.

Map/ guide book

I like to know my local surroundings - a map helps me to get my bearings and plan my free time.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Jonah, all the hotels provide tea/coffee making facility. So just wondering where on JY holiday do you need to use the travel kettle?

Phone, camera, chargers, AND adaptor

(I don't think we're allowed to boil water in cabins.)

Hi

It was a toss up between my phone and charger and a good book. On balance, chose my phone and charger as I have a 90 year old mother and I need to keep in contact.

Hi Dyuti

No they don't. Many countries do not provide tea/coffee making in the room. The boiled water is for countries where it is not safe to drink the tap water and I can use it for teeth cleaning to save on bottled.

I have settled for a camera, although now in the process of buying a Kindle Fire HD as it has 2 cameras front and back for Skyping my daughters when I am in New Zealand, plus books and photos, going on Facebook and get emails.

I have voted for camera!!!! So I can re see my memories, this would be closely followed by notepad journal and pen, I am always writing stuff down i.e., on multi hotel tours my room number and which hotel I am in, also taking notes for writing reviews etc, and writing what time check out and where and what time we are meeting. Memory like a sieve.

Thanks, Jonah. I have been to many countries and have not come across a hotel room without a kettle. I always take Yorkshire tea bags on holidays, although I use loose tea leaves at home to make Indian style tea.

None of the European hotels I've stayed in had tea/coffee making facilities, nor would they allow people using their own kettles.

They wanted us to use their cafeteria ... much more lucrative for them.

I can remember two hotels that I have stayed in with tea/coffee making facilities, one was in Cairo and the second

was the Rodney Bay hotel in St Lucia, both were JY holidays.

And of course Premier Inn does as well.

As a post script to my earlier post something I always pop in the case is a mailing tube! I like things for the wall and how often do you buy a picture, poster etc but have difficulty getting it home safely. No real weight & tucks away nicely & keeps stuff safe until you get home.

Il Settebello, Tuscany certainly does not have a kettle in the room. Britannia in Cadenabbria was another hotel on Lake Como that did not have kettles- went to that one with Leger- shall never travel overnight in a coach again 😞

All of the other 9 holidays with JY have had kettles for which I am greatful 🙂

I have chosen camera. I wonder what people did when we did not have IPads, mobile phones etc. I like to get away from all modern technology when I am on holiday.

I haven yet stayed in a JY hotel in Europe where kettles are provided.
