HI.  I'm booked on this trip for May next year and looking for any information please.  What are the hotels like, are there kettles in the rooms for that all important early morning cuppa or do I need my travel kettle?  How about adapter plugs for charging phones etc, do I need special ones or just Europe ones? Food - most important as I'm vegetarian so will I struggle?  Anything else you can think of about this holiday or Russia in general would be most helpful.  Thanks. 🙂

Hi Jennyf

If you type Moscow in the search area under reviews you will find several reviews on this trip - one I did and a great one by Mike W which should answer your queries.

You will have no problem with veggie food and if Bernie is your TM he will sort everything out for you.  I don't know what hotels you are staying at on this trip so can't comment on kettles.  We certainly had them on our trip.

Have a great time - it is a amazing place to visit.

Thanks. I have looked on reviews bit if I've read correctly the latest one is dated 2017 and I believe hotels might have changed since then so was really looking for a later review. I love ready the reviews and always try to write up one myself upon my return.

Hi Jennyf,

I did this tour in September 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed it; as jonah has said, I did leave a review which you can find in the relevant section. Looking at the brochure I see that the hotel in Moscow has been changed since I went, so unfortunately I can’t comment on that. However, the Taleon Imperial in St Petersburg is wonderful and remains one of the very best hotels that I’ve ever stayed at.

The itinerary remains largely unchanged since my visit, except for the addition of afternoon tea with a Russian ballet dancer on day 6, which should be an interesting experience.

As for adapter plugs, I would suggest that you look on the internet to confirm what you’d need. I can’t remember buying a special adapter for my visit so I’m thinking that it may be a standard round two-pin plug, but don’t quote me.

Russia is an amazing and interesting country to visit and I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it. Have a wonderful time.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Jennyf,

I can confirm that Russia use a standard round two-pin plug so if you have a normal European adapter that should be fine.

Cheers

Mike

I'm a bit daunted by the visa application info (and the expense) but I expect all will become clear when the time comes.

I had been told that there is usually a very long wait at the fingerprint place in London.  So I went armed with a book, a newspaper, bottle of water some biscuits and an apple.  Was in and out in 15 minutes.  Staff very friendly and helpful. Felt welcomed to their country before I had even left England.    I had a fantastic time way beyond expectations    - hope you do too.

ps I found that it was a wise move to take my own decaf tea bags and coffee sachets.

I went on this trip in May this year. it was amazing. I loved it. Out tour manager Paul added a mini tour of some of the underground stations which are incredible and we saw Red Square at night while we were out. absolutely memorable. Definitely worth asking about.

The European adapter is the one you need.

The Visa form is daunting but use Russia House to answer any queries and to check the form. They were really helpful.

Enjoy it!

Hi Jenny

Please post on the community how you get on & the names of any vegetarian restaurants as I'm interested in going to Russia next year & I'm a veggie too! From the research I have done online it shouldn't be a problem as traditionally there are fasting days when meat is not eaten

It will be an amazing trip 🙂
