I am heading off on this tour on Sunday. I have been to New England before and also lived in Canada. My advice is to pack layers. By October it will be getting rather chilly. As for mossie spray......no I honestly don't see you needing it in October.

I just got back from this trip today so will be doing a review of it in the next few days - suffice it to say, it was a brilliant holiday, but will go into more detail either tomorrow or Friday when I recover sufficiently!
