Another excellent holiday!!

Having read the previous reviews I was very much looking forward to this holiday and was not disappointed. Like most in our little group I had booked as I wished to travel to Tibet, although I have to say I throughly enjoyed the China part of the Tour. The tour was varied and set at a good pace with more free time than I had previously experienced on a china tour. The highlights for me were the Pandas, River Li cruise and the cookery class.

Tibet was superb. The scenery was stunning, the people so welcoming and despite the evident military and police presence, particularly in Lhasa, it was a very safe country. You do need to go with an open mind as our itinerary changed from the one advertised. Whilst we covered everything we did Lhasa at the end of our time in Tibet due to acces to the Potala Palace. We did cover everything and the guides did a good job of changing days around so we had the best experience possible during our time there. Whilst we all felt the impact of the altitude a couple of ladies did suffer quite badly, with one requiring oxygen. In regards to previous comments made about the toilets I would definitely recommend the ‘au natural’ breaks. The food was much better than expected, I think more people had issue with a few of the breakfast meals than anything else.

I would very recommend this holiday but one word of warning. If do wish to travel to Tibet go soon, with the amount of building work taking place I fear Tibet will lose its unique charm in years to come.

Taffy.

Hi Taffy

So glad you enjoyed the Roof of the World tour - there were certainly many more "bears" compared to Churchill

Tibet was amazing wasn't it - monasteries, monks, palaces, the scenery, the people, yaks - and - yes - I will never forget the toilets.

Like you I particularly enjoyed the peaceful cruise down the Li River in Southern China - in places the scenery was so dramatic.

I endorse your comment regarding visiting sooner rather than later - we also saw an awful lot of building work - motorways, airports, hotel/apartment blocks.

Wishing you happy travels Taffy.

I will also take the opportunity to say hello to Angie - really jealous of your Nepal walking holiday - look forward to the reviews - have a great time - me? off to Vietnam and Cambodia in November.

Taffy / Di,

I've been watching a lot of archive footage on You Tube lately. Very interesting a lot of it. For instance watching strange ceremonial dances in the Potala Palace with the Dalai Lama looking on from a window above, on spots where we have stood. Amazing stuff.

Taffy, it was interesting you said one of the highlights was the cookery class. Before I went I thought this would be something to fill in the time near the end of the tour but we all really enjoyed it too...ready, steady, cook! We have a cooking class on our first evening in Kathmandu - hopefully it's a successful welcome dinner!

Hello to you too Di. Nice one. That's a real good trip to look forward to. I did Cambodia & Mekong Delta in November 2015 with TS and thought it was terrific. I'll need to go back to Vietnam one day and do the north to south!

Thank you so much for this review ( and for previous reviews of this tour) - all really helpful! - I am booked on the Sept 2018 date with Hong Kong add on- Does anyone have any additional thoughts/experience/ advice on the add on please?

I’ve travelled to China before- did the inspirational China tour back in 2015- enjoyed that and included Chengdu in that tour- looking forward to seeing those Pandas again and experiencing Tibet! - I was originally planning to do this tour next year but brought plans forward after hearing that Sept date has an excellent tour guide assigned who I have travelled with before- need to get some practice in climbing steps ahead of September!
