I have just returned from a brilliant holiday to Mallorca. I was initially disappointed by the change from Pollensa to Cala Mayor. I'd looked on trip adviser and the reviews of the resort were not good. I nearly cancelled but am so glad I decided to go. Cala Mayor is not a picturesque resort but this didn't matter. It was very well connected on the bus links and you could travel all over the island very cheaply if you wanted to. I liked the fact it was so close to Palma. We had a night out in Palma one night and had a lovely paella in a Spanish restaurant. Previous comments have commented on a lack of bars in Cala Mayor and while there aren't many I managed to find a karaoke bar and a disco which was more like a bar with music than an actual disco. There is also a very nice kebab shop for anyone feeling peckish after a night out!!. For anyone wanting a lot of bars to go to it is very easy to go into Palma and the buses run until midnight. It is only 9 euros to get a taxi back to the hotel and I felt very safe walking around Palma at night.
The Be-lieve costa palma is a lovely hotel. They provided us with drinks on arrival which was a thoughtful touch. All inclusive guests can use the facilities at all 3 hotels. The staff are amongst some of the friendliest I've come across and I would recommend this hotel. The all inclusive food ranks with the best of the all inclusive offerings I've tried. There is a lot of variety and you'd struggle to find something you didn't like. The marivent had entertainment on which was really pleasant although it finished a bit early for me at 10.30pm. The first night we put our tables together so we could sit as a group. Whenever we went after the first night the waiter would come over and help us move tables as soon as they saw us. Nothing was too much trouble for them. There was a good selection of drinks available on the all inclusive and I never had to queue at the bar. Although the hotel was fully booked it felt fairly quiet. One of the group tried the full body massage and sang its praises. I never had a problem getting a sun bed as if you couldn't get one at the Costa Palma there was usually beds available at one of the other hotels and the change of scenery was nice. The rooms were clean and I had a nice view from my balcony. There was a hairdryer in the room.
I did all of the excursions and found them all very good. Soller is lovely and definitely worth a visit. On one of the free days we even ventured into Magaluf (yes, really!!) and we had a really nice meal on the sea front and went to the house of Katmandu. George Wales, our tour manager provided us all with bus timetables which was really useful for the free days. Valdemosa is also a lovely place to walk around and I enjoyed this optional excursion. I enjoyed seeing Pollensa and wished i had gone back on one of the free days but there weren't enough days in the week!!. The guided tour of Palma was good although a little long for some of the group. The local tour guide was not great in terms of being flexible to travellers needs although did seem to mellow by day 4. Our rep, George Wales managed to sort him out and he was better towards the end of the week. George Wales is a brilliant tour guide and couldn't do enough for us. Anyone doing one of his tours will be well looked after.
The group we had was very friendly and this just added to the whole experience. Hello to any members on here and hope you got home safely.
The beach, while quite small is lovely with clear blue sea and some of the best looking lifeguards I have seen in my life!!!!.
This is a lovely trip to do. Don't be put off by the change of resort and hotel. Yes, you will have a different type of holiday than you would in Pollensa but you will have an equally good one.
