Hi Taffy

Don't blame you for getting excited as this is a lovely holiday.  There is so much to do and see - don't expect to get any rest!  To be honest, at the time I just did not know what to think when I saw all these flying insects, though I can laugh about the experience now.   I am well prepared now for anything!!  Have a great holiday.

Jaya

Hi Jaya

So excited.  I'm off in 10 days and your review sounds wonderful.  What shoes did you pack?  did you take walking boots or just waterproof sandals?  Also did you exchange money before you went or there?

Any help would be appreciated!

Kind regards

Chrissie

Hiya Shelley

yes it was easy to get veggie food on the trip as well as on the airlines, if you stated this on your booking this should automatically be sorted or just mention it to your TM,  you'll love Erica, I trust she will be taking you

enjoy its mouth watering with little rest at all

Dave

Oh lovely.  Many Thanks for your reply  🙂

Wow thank you Jaya,

I am off next week on the next trip and I am getting very excited.

You have wrote a wonderful review and very comprehensive.

I am also going to Singapore if you can recommend some good trips.  Apparently the gardens by the bay is cancelled, due to maintenance, which is a shame.

Warm regards Julie

Hi Julie

So sorry to hear that the Gardens by the Bay is cancelled as they are wonderful.  I recommend the botanical gardens, especially the Orchid Gardens, bum boat ride - the views are wonderful and you can get some great shots of the skyscrapers.  Sentosa Island is another recommendation - we were only able to go to the butterfly gardens and the aquarium but you can spend a day or two there.  Enjoy the trip.

A brilliant review, thanks Jaya. I am beyond excited about my trip in November.

Can you advise on footwear, please?

Toni

Hi Toni

I only wore shoes for the first jungle trek though you could easily have done it in comfortable sandals as there were no leeches.  Most of the time I just wore comfy walking sandals.  Did not need knee length socks either.  Enjoy your trip.

Hi Jaya,

Superb review.  I'm on the June departure so getting very excited now.

Is it quite easy to get vegetarian food on this trip?  I don't eat meat or fish.

Thanks,

Michelle

Hi Michelle

Yes plenty of vegetarian food as Dave has already confirmed.  You do get rice with every meal, but we also got lovely tasty pasta in some places and some lovely vegetarian sweet corn soup.  Breaksfasts were buffet style so plenty of choice with fresh fruit each day.  You are in for a treat.

Great Review Jaya, It really sounds like it was a fantastic holiday... however like I said to Bob, I'm a little disappointed there are no leach tales 🙂  I hope some of you will share a few photos with JY... as I would love to see them.

Hi Chrissie

I did not take any walking boots as they are not really required.  I took a pair of sketchers shoes, but only wore them once and just wore comfortable sandals for the rest of the time.  No need for waterproof sandals, just a poncho in case it rains.  I purchased a plastic one in Borneo and only needed it once whilst on the boat.

Hi Jaya

Thanks for the review which was very detailed. A room full of flying moths must have been an unnerving experience but what I really want to know is did Bob have to wear a sarong!!

Hi Julie, Taffy (both Polar Bear buddies!) and all the other travellers off to Sabah and Singapore shortly! You are in for a wonderful time.

http://www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/en.html   There are scheduled maintenance days for the different domes, garden areas and some closures for events. It may be that a closure has affected the standard tour offered to JY on a specific day? I did not go on the optional group tour as I wanted to take my time exploring the gardens, which I thoroughly enjoyed and have 100s of photos to prove it! So if the Gardens are open on other days while you are in Singapore I would thoroughly recommend a visit. Check the web site to see what is closed on each day? The domes (Conservatories) are of course the main attractions. A taxi from outside your hotel - the doorman will wave one up for you, costs in the region of 7 to 10 Singapore dollars (S$) on the meter, up to 4 passengers. Entry, including the domes, is currently S$28 and the Skyway is S$8. You can pick up a site map at the entrance. There is also a well stocked gift shop! There are several places to get food and drink on the site and clean toilets. Take your sun brolly/hat if you intend to walk round outside and don't forget your bottle of water. I would anticipate spending several hours there - but afterwards you could walk from the garden across the beautiful walkways towards the Marina - perhaps visit the Marina Bay Sands hotel and take the lift to the 56 or 57 floor! 56 floor lift takes you to the observation deck at the front of the "boat" which rests on the three towers with its panoramic views. This costs S$23 (S$20 seniors). Or you can travel free to the 57 floor and enjoy (very slightly more restricted) panoramic views from the boat's roof top bar and restaurant - I chose this option and sipped a cocktail as the sun started to set! There are (usually) light displays from The Gardens by the Bay and in the Marina each evening which can be viewed from various vantage points. There is a designated taxi rank at the back of the Marina Bay hotel/shops and an evening metered fare back to the hotel was S$10.

Oh no - I will have to go back to looking at my photos - again! Overall (just don't mention narrow coach seats! or a flying bug duvet!) it truly was a wonderful holiday and will remain a long time in my memory. Have a great time.

PS Left hand side of the bus from the airport into Singapore gives the best first views of the Marina from the flyover (unless the route changes!)

PPS There is a Starbucks a few minutes walk from the hotel (turn left out of the door and left onto the main road , across two sets of lights, on the way to Clarkes Quay) Free wifi - but then of course you buy a coffee…. and a cake…..

Wild Borneo with Singapore Add-On – 19 May 2016

Here is a review of the above amazing tour………….

Jaya

Hi Jaya

Great review - it brought back so many memories. Despite the odd niggles I think we all had a good time. Certainly those narrow coach seats helped us make friends!! The flying bugs made me surprisingly brave - I only screamed once and that was at a lone survivor when the rest were trapped in the bathroom! Just bobbing about in a small boat, on a river in the middle of a rainforest, watching wild Orang Utan and pygmy elephants - what more could you ask for……….  🙂

Hi Alan

Yes Bob had to wear a sarong and he did wear it.  Most of the Group, including the local guides wore them and we have a group photo to prove it!

Hi Diane

Yes, this was a wonderful trip despite the flying bugs and odd niggles. I enjoyed every second, even the narrow coach seats and bumpy ride at the back! This all added to the adventure. It would be nice if I could relive the entire trip! Also, it was great to meet you.
