I have never been asked to do a Feefo review either Monty, and to the best of my knowledge haven't opted out either.

Great review, Bob. It all sounds really interesting and one that I might think about when I can pluck up courage to go on a non-singles holiday! Your tips on that make good sense.

I'm off on the Budapest to Strasbourg river cruise next week. I don't think that there are many in the JY group but hopefully enough to make it fun.

Great review Bob

And very informative. I am going to Borneo in June so I will be expecting a comprehensive review with lots of hints and tips, when you return in May.

Keep up the good work

Regards Julie

Hi Monty, thanks for the reply. I've never opted out of receiving any mailings from Feefo; in fact I've never had any emails from them or concerning them at all. Earlier this year Julia did say that the majority of TS and JY customers this year should receive a request to put up a Feefo review after their tours. Perhaps one day I'll get such a request. Obviously, as I always review my holidays with the company on the Community forum, I am very happy to do this!

Hi Julie, I will certainly write a review after the Borneo tour and hopefully it will be helpful!

Best wishes,

Bob

Hi

I get requests from Feefo once I have returned from Just You holiday. Recently completed the Battlefields review.

Julie, I will add on to Bob's Borneo review as I too am on the same trip!

Have just come back from this trip (not with JY, but with TS). We found the trip to be very intense and somewhat hard going and it occurred to me how subjective our experiences are. Although the trip was good value I think, I came back exhausted from the full on itinary. One of our group likened it to being back in the Army.

We took some days off and did our own thing and they were definitely  the best days of the trip. Again, I would disagree about the hotels, as the one we liked most was the one on the lake. (yes it was quirky but was the only one with any character). the included food is generally Ok But not for vegetarians, as most meals consisted of large slabs of meat. This is ok for a few days but does become tedious after a while, so we often did our own thing and went down the local town where there is some escape from the totally  carnivorous menu.

I think my main comment to people thinking of going on this trip is the amount  of time spent on the coach. 3 whole days (about 8 hours each day ) are spent on the bus. this in my opinion is not a way to spend a holiday. I inquired about this prior to going but at no time was told about the length of time travelling. this is not just a problem with TS staff, as I think all companies try to hide this.

My suggestion is that the holiday should either be longer so that some days off are included or that say only 3 countries are visited so that additional free time is included. After all, what is the point of lake side and seaside hotels when there is no time to enjoy it?

I would agree that Kristina the tour guide was very good. She had enough patience to tolerate us all, but enough fire to get things done when problems arose. Most importantly she has a great sense of humour which is  absolutely essential

The driver Sidic was extremely steady and reliable and with great skills, taking the coach to places i would not even take a car.

The coach was extremely uncomfortable  and the seats on the return plane seemed luxurious in comparison. We also had a large number on the tour (38) which is too many and led to problems with hotel checkins and small slow inadequate lifts.

The local guide in Albania was extremely poor and though she had some interesting things to say, she lost almost all interest because of her monotonous delivery. At one point she had only 4 people listening out of the 38 as all the others had drifted away. This point really needs addressing.

In conclusion i would say go on this holiday if you want a non stop history of the Balkans in 2 weeks, but don't think of this trip as a Holiday; It isn't, it is an endurance test which I think we and a lot of other members of the group failed. I'm glad I've seen the 6 countries but my back is telling me it was a bad mistake.

The group as a whole was great and everyone got on with each other, so that helped to lessen the disappointment.

Just my view, but would not recommend this trip. We have been on a few other TS tours which have been really good so maybe it's just this one which needs tweaking.

Hi Terence,

As you say, every view is subjective!  I look back on this tour with great happiness and many fond memories, despite having an upset stomach for a couple of days!  I have done 13 tours with JY and 3 with TS and this would rank as one of my favourites overall.  I am sure that if you found the coach uncomfortable that some of the long travelling days would colour your view of the tour - our coach was comfortable and I didn't find this a problem at all.  I would go as far as to complement TS on such a terrific itinerary as we saw and did so much.  However, just to show that I do understand where you are coming from, on the Borneo tour I did earlier this year, the coach we had for the first few days was very uncomfortable so yes, it certainly can impact severely on enjoyment and comfort levels.

When we stayed in Ohrid, we had time to walk by the lake on the first night before dinner and the following day after the lake excursion, there was plenty of free time to explore the old town (Kristina kindly took us on an unofficial walking tour which was very helpful).  I agree that the local guide we had in Albania was poor (I wonder was it the same lady?); however towards the end of her city tour, she spoke of her own family's experience of repression and that was fascinating.  Sadly very few of the group were listening by that stage.  We were a group of around 40 as I remember, but this didn't really have a detrimental affect on group dynamics and I found them to be very friendly on the whole.  No one complained about the intensity of the tour in our group.

What appealed to me about this tour most was that we got to experience six countries in a region that I hadn't been to before and will probably never return to again - apart from Croatia, as I definitely want to see more of the country.  I would probably not have done the tour if it only covered three of the countries in a fortnight and if the tour were longer I suspect it would have to be more expensive and wouldn't get the same level of bookings.  With touring holidays, JY and TS tend to pack in as much as they reasonably can, so that we get the best out of the experience.  I don't go on these tours to relax, rather to see as much of the destination as possible.  I know some people prefer a slower pace but it's not for me!

All the best,

Bob

I was on this trip at the same time as Bob and can concur with everything he says. Perhaps it is not to everyone's taste but it seemed obvious from the brochure description it was going to be full on when visiting so many countries in so few days.

I choose the full on tours and on most of them I feel more tired when I get back than when I went, but I will have seen and done so much I can always catch up on sleep....the most time I spent on coaches was the NZ tour, but that's when I cat napped....

Yes Bob i think it must have been the same guide in Albania as my wife told me afterwards about her brother having been jailed for 8 years for saying he would leave the country if he could! Perhaps had she started with that, then people would have been more receptive.

I obviously seemed more negative in my review than i would have wished. As I said , the tour was good value and we like you like a  fairly active schedule. I just felt in this instance the balance was not quite right. We seemed to do a lot of churches and fortresses in towns and cities where there were other things to see (Museums and Art galleries for instance).

Anyway I'm sure it's good to get two different views

Enjoy your travelling.

regards

Terry
