Hi,

If anyone who went on this tour is reading this could they give us some feedback please? eg hotels, weather, ranch, dinner cruise etc. I'm going next Thursday and would love some advice!

Thanks,

Pat

Hi Pat,

I did this tour last year in April. Hotels were all very good quality. Of course the weather in Sept/Oct will be different to what we had but even in April it was really hot in some places. Take a sweater or cardi to the rodeo in Fort Worth as they have air conditioning and it got very cold in there! The dinner cruise in New Orleans was nice but very busy and it wasn't a very dressy affair - again it was much cooler at night on the cruise. You have to leave your seats after dinner as there is a second seating but you can wander around the boat and watch the lights go by as you cruise. There are also plenty of seats and even a small bar area if you need a drink. We went to the Palm Court Jazz Cafe in New Orleans one night which was very busy - food and music were good! Didn't do the ranch trip but instead spent the day wandering around San Antonio. Some of the places they visit on the bus in San Antonio were only a short walk away from the hotel which we discovered on the walk around town later. Most of the people on our tour did the ranch day and no one had anything bad to say about it, even those who didn't participate in the horseback ride. There are some fantastic places to eat along the River Walk in San Antonio, I can recommend both Saltgrass Steakhouse and Boudros Texas Bistro - the River Walk festival was on while we there so some of these places were extremely busy - up to an hours wait for a table; it may not be as busy without the Festival on. None of the places we visited for meals, etc were dressy affairs, smart casual seems to be the way to go in the States. Hope this helps, let me know if I can tell you anything else.

Have a great time!

Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline,

Thankyou so much for the feedback - I have taken it all on board and written down the names of the restaurants you recommended.

I havn't booked the rodeo (been to one before and watched most of it with my eyes closed!! I'm too much of an animal lover! I have booked on the other three however.

One more thing - what were the flights like? I've heard bad reports about AA - (old aircraft, not TV's etc).

Thanks again,

Cheers, Pat

Hi Pat,

Found AA to be okay on our trip. Everyone friendly and helpful. Usual airline fare nothing to be excited about. Can't remember if we had seatback TV's as I tend to read on flights. We were delayed at New Orleans airport on the way home due to hurricanes around New York so spent a great deal of time there - make sure you have something to eat before going to the airport in New Orleans as there is not a lot of choice for beverages/food in the airport -unless you like real junk food! - also pretty cold in there with air conditioning!

Enjoy!

Jacqueline

 hi Pat, the holiday and destinations were great. For me tho it was too much travelling on the coach, swollen ankles? Ha. I think next time I would spend more time in a couple of cities to wander. We had a great group of travellers and much laughter. I really enjoyed myself. Fitzy
