Hi guys,
I have not done this trip with JY but I have been to Istanbul on two separate visits and I have also been to Ephesus.
Taking Ephesus first, it is truly worth a visit to see the iconic library building, the subject of many a picture. For me however the highlight was the extremely impressive amphitheatre which we did not know was there and was an awesome surprise. I watched a recent programme regarding remains they have found there thought to be that of Cleopatra's sister. The programme took me right back.
Onto Istanbul. Well this is one of my all time favourite places. The Blue Mosque (free), Hagia Sophia Mosque now a museum (pay), the bridge which always has scores of people with a rod fishing, the Galatay Tower, the lesser known Cistern, the Sultan's Topkapi Palace..... there are so many great things to see. I was there in both January and August so have experienced hot and cold.
Try just jumping on a small commuter boat for a few pence and pop over to Asia! Don't worry where you will end up, just get another one back. You must see the mosques and their minarets from the water. It will live with you forever.
Just ask if there is anything you would like to know and I'll see if I can help.
