Just returned from completing Route 66. Had a fantastic time. We did & saw so much. We has a great tour guide in Richard Lloyd who really looked after us & who's knowledge of the US & the Native Americans was a major contributing factor. I'm really envious of anyone who is booked on to the future trips. Expect to be spoilt in Chicago with the hotel, please overcome your fears to go up to the top of the Gateway Arch in St Louis & a day at Universal Studios in LA is a fantastic end to the trip. Make sure you get to Santa Monica & walk on the pier where Route 66 officially ends. Richard & David "Frenchy" our coach driver pulled out the stops & included this additional excursion for us - should not be missed. If you do find some free time - do what I did & get to a Baseball game - we managed to see the Cardinals in St Louis - although they lost it was still a great experience.

I would recommend you watch the Disney Cars movie before you go - then references to Mater & Radiator Springs will have more meaning as you travel along the route. Finally say hi to Crazy Legs Dean when you meet him in Baxter Springs - have your videos ready!:)

Thanks Jane

Hi good to hear about this trip, which I am booked on this month. It will be my first-holiday with J.Y. And I have booked on all the excursions and it's getting so close, so it was really nice to read your review. What was the weather like whilst you were there?

Kind Regards

Suzy

We had unseasonably really hot & sunny weather reaching the high 90s on a few days while we were in Texas & New Mexico. Take a sun hat and lots of sun cream.

I pre-booked the Sante Fe day trip and the River City Casino and while I was over there I added Universal Studios and the Cowboy Evening. Note that any excursions booked while in the US have to be paid for in cash ($)

I really liked Santa Fe but others on the trip jumped on a bus & went to Old Town Albuquerque and had a great time - it depends if you want a day off from the coach. Casino evening is good (doesn't compete with Vegas though) because the hotel is miles out of St Louis so its a night out. Don't miss Universal Studios it was brilliant. The Cowboy Evening was a huge disappointment - not worth even half what you pay for it.

There was no appetite for Branson in the group so that did not happen as you need a minimum number.

If you are lucky enough to have David (Frenchy) as your coach driver please say hi from me - just mention that I'm in to baseball!

Hi Denise

I'm going on 28 May and haven't yet decided which ones to do, so good to know what you thought. May now think again about Cowboy Evening but will probably prebook the others.

Thanks

Hi Just wan to echo all that Denise has said as I too was on the trip!! It was GREAT! I was one of the group who jumped on the local buses and went to the Old Town which was so much fun. We got involved in a wedding.

As Denise said the only really dissapointing night was the Cowboy Evening but you can't win them all.

The view from the top of the St.Louis Tower is great and it's such a different way to get to the top you should not miss it. Also in Chicago go up to the 94th floor of the Hancock Tower as it's free and the view!!!!!

Have a ball all of you and I hope you see as many Harleys as I did.

Hi Janne & Denise,

Thanks for the feedback. I was one of those who campaigned for this trip & am going on 3rd September. I am so glad you had a good time - I just knew you would.

Like many others, I have wanted to do this since I was a teenager & now I can. I am so looking forward to this - another to be crossed off my 'wish list' . All I have to do now is decide which excursions to go on. Decisions, decisions.....

Be happy,

Best wishes,

Lesley

Hi Lesley

Really wish I could do this trip all again apart from the Cowboy night!!! You will love it all but when you get to L.A you MUST go to Universal Studios and go on the Simpsons' virtual roller coaster!! It is so scarey but GREAT!!! No matter how much you may think you can't you must and you will love it.

Will look forward to your feedback.

Have a ball

Janne x 🙂
