Hello

I've just returned from a fantastic JY holiday to Pompeii, Sorento & Bay of Naples. However I was very disappointed that one of the optional excursions to Mount Vesuvius was cancelled due to insufficient numbers & at the start of the week the majority were in doubt. I'm aware that there is a minimum number required but I'm interested to know if this is an exception or frequent occurrence that excursions have to be cancelled as this would influence me booking future trips where a number of the excursions are optional.

Hi Jackie,

I'm delighted to hear that you had a great time with us in Italy, although I'm sorry your excursion to Mount Vesuvius didn't have enough travellers to operate.

In terms of optional excursions being cancelled due to insufficient numbers, while this does happen occassionally, the majority of trips operate as planned. The team know that customers want different things from their holidays - some prefer to relax while others want to get out and about and they are talking with all of our suppliers to try and operate more trips on lower numbers where required.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Many years ago on a USA tour there was a optional tour to Jack Daniels Distillery, which I really wanted to go on as did others. This was the first time I came across the fact there was not sufficient numbers to make it viable, I as others were not happy as we were only 2 people short on numbers we all chipped in and paid the difference.

I have been on other tours where numbers have just about been ok, perhaps JY need to put a note to that affect, not all that is on offer will actually run..

Hi Jackie,  Glad you enjoyed this holiday as I am doing it in June.  I have also booked lots of extra excursions and am looking forward to them.  However, if they are cancelled, providing they refund the cost, I am ok with that.  Where did you stay.  I am staying in Pompeii at Hotel Palma, so if that is where you stayed would love your thoughts on the hotel.  Fingers crossed that with this Coronavirus my holiday will still go ahead!

Hi Diddydi,

That hotel isn't used for the trips during the winter months. We stayed in Hotel Villa Romana in Minori, quite a way from Pompeii, lovely hotel though, you'll be alright if the one in Pompeii is as nice - although I did wince a bit at my (self inflicted) bar bill at the end of the holiday!!

During Jan & Feb it's the Hotel Villa Romana which is in Minori which is a small resort on the Amalfi coast about an hour plus drive to Pompeii. If it had been the hotel you are staying at then we could probably have made our own way to Vesuvius but it wasn't possible from Minori.

Hope you have as great a time as I did!
