Hi Alison
I was on this trip last year and loved it (so much so I considered going again this year!)!...
I think people mostly did dress for dinner, not sparkly stuff or long frocks, but out of jeans and trainers– Christmas Eve was a little special (no spoilers). I didn’t take any big jumpers with me but it was chilly on the evening walking around Sorrento – gloves and hat recommended. And as bags are included in the cost of the holiday everyone except 1 lady had luggage for the hold of the plane. Days were fairly warm (think UK spring – 13 degrees ); evenings were chilly as you would expect – walking around Pompeii was quite warm.
Midnight Mass in Minori (close to the Hotel on the beachfront) was pretty quiet compared to other Midnight Masses I’ve attended – it’s more popular to go to the Cathedral in Amalfi (you could catch a cab but I don’t know what the procedure would be to get back to Minori – wouldn’t want to be stranded miles from my bed). Minori Midnight Mass was really very nice, I don’t want to give too many spoilers but it’s worth hanging about until the very end and following the priest ….
I have submitted a review from my trip in 2018 which you can find if you look for it. The many Nativity scenes at churches were a special delight for me (it’s not for everyone but I loved them); in Amalfi on the main street there is one in a fountain (actually in the fountain). There are a few in Minori too – one at the main Church set out as a manger which you can walk through, and please don’t miss the one in the courtyard at the Santa Lucia church which is so pretty – it’s in a tiny street almost hidden away. This was found by a fellow traveller who spotted – and followed - a Christmas star lit up in an alleyway …. it’s so worth the short walk from the Hotel. The same fellow traveller has some terrific photos on Flikr, but I don’t like to share his account without his approval.
Enjoy the trip!
Ann
