Hi Vickie

Is there a way to find out the single supplement on Travelsphere holidays without me having to ring them and ask? Also how many single spaces may be available on such holidays?

Regards

Janet

Hi Janet,

I can find out for you if you can let me know the tour and date that you're interested in?

I'll reply on here, save you calling 🙂

Generally we have 3 single spaces on trips, but we will sometimes add 1 or 2 more if we have people interested.

Thanks,

Vickie

Hi Janet

A friend and I are going on a Travelsphere holiday to Vietnam and Cambodia in September and the single supplement is about £ 400. Each holiday will be different but thought this would give you an idea of likely costs.

Hi,

I normally pretend I’m booking and change the ‘room type’ drop down from double/twin to single, and put J Bloggs in for the name and click on ‘continue booking’, it then gives you the price and also the single supplement. I’ve done 2 tours with Travelsphere and paid about £500, but with my Poland trip I had to pay more on top as they had to get me booked on as an extra single traveller, they usually only have a few single places per tour so it’s best to book early if there is a holiday you really want to do ?.

Hi

Thanks very much for the info. I was hoping there was a way I could check online before having to ask anyone.

Lesley - thanks for the info re supplement for Vietnam/Cambodia trip. I did the JY version (without Cambodia) last year and am sure you will both have a fantastic time.

Vickie - please can you give me single supplement for Ultimate South Africa with Travelsphere for 01/11/19, 24/01/20 and 28/02/20. Also please can you advise if any other singles booked.

Thanks

Janet

Hi Caroline

Thanks very much for advising of this. It’s very handy to know that there is a way of checking the cost online and I will certainly use this for getting a figure before ringing in future to see if single is actually available at that cost.

Thanks again

Hi Janet,

There is a much simpler way - if you get a Travelsphere brochure, the single supplement is listed for each tour!  Generally TS can book additional single traveller places (if needed), but you need to book as early as possible as it may not be possible three months or less before departure!

All the best,

Bob

PS I have done three TS holidays, with one more booked and I have enjoyed them just as much as my JY tours.

Hi Bob

Thanks for advising me if this. I must admit that I hadn’t thought of the info being in the brochure. I had just assumed it wouldn’t be as not on the website. Am going to ring them now asking them to send me one.

I am pleased to see you have enjoyed your trips with TS. Where have you been and where are you going with them next?

I have done other non solo holidays but they have all been wildlife ones where the group has been a max of 16 with all excursions included and meals eaten together. How have you found the trips with TS in respect of when meals are not included? I really don’t like eating on my own. Have you found people still tend to go to restaurants as a group or eat in the hotel?

Hi Janet,

The single supplement is £500 on all of those dates 🙂

Thanks,

Hi Janet,

The three TS tours I've done are: Chile, Argentina and Brazil (before JY started offering this tour), Tales of the Balkan Peninsula and the Grand Baltic trip.  On each I was not left to eat alone!  On the CAB tour, I went with a friend so that was a bit different; however it was a small group of 14 and two of the couples were very friendly and we ate with them on several evenings.  On the Balkan tour, most dinners were included and I was befriended by a lovely Welsh couple and sat with them at most meals.  On the Baltic tour, I didn't find the couples so friendly but there were two other single travellers and we got on well and generally ate together.  I'm doing the Canadian Rockies in Sept with TS and am travelling with two friends.  Together we make up the three solo travellers on that tour and so that will be grand!

My views on going with TS (and I've also travelled with Jules Verne) as a single are that I don't mind going by myself although I do try to get at least another travel buddy to go with me.  I would check the itinerary to see how many dinners are included and for any nights that do not include a meal, I'd check the hotel website to see if the hotel had a restaurant, or if there was one nearby.  If I was travelling by myself I'd keep my eyes peeled to see if there were any other singles or others who may welcome some company, but if not I'd be prepared to eat by myself - and bring a book or smart phone for company!  I've found that some of the couples usually eat in the hotel as well and if they are friendly, may extend an invitation to join them.

So far I've been fine on TS tours - and also have to say that on some JY tours where dinner hasn't been included I've ended up eating by myself on occasion!  It wasn't the end of the world, although I'd obviously prefer company.  (On some JY tours I've been eating with the group and wishing I was eating by myself, but that's another story!!!)  JY are now emphasising that the tour manager will help customers to find somewhere to eat on evenings that don't have a group meal - previously that was NOT the case and some TMs did make an effort, while many did not.  I presume that seeing as the company use the same TMs on JY and TS tours, that the tour manager should be prepared to help a single travellers find somewhere to eat on a TS tour.  Vickie and others have recently stated that customers are welcome to join the TM for dinner - I haven't seen this in action yet and I would think that, based on experience, some TMs wouldn't be keen on this - but if it is now company policy, then they would have to oblige!

Any other questions, I'd be happy to help.  At the end of the day, if it was a tour I really wanted to do, I would do it, with or without travel buddies, whether it was with a single traveller company or not.

All the best,

Bob

Hi Bob

I appreciate you sharing your experiences in respect of dining on the TS trips. It’s good to see that, in the main, others are usually happy for you to join them.

I would look for a holiday where most excursions are included or where there are optionals for potential free days but hadn’t thought about checking if the hotel has a restaurant so thanks for that suggestion. Will definitely be interesting to see if the TM does offer to dine with the group or individuals going forward should the need arise to save someone being on their own.

I agree that I shouldn’t let my fears stop me from booking non-single holidays where it is somewhere I wish to visit or where the itinerary or dates of such are more preferable.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish yourself and friends a wonderful trip to the Rockies in September.

Thanks again

Janet

Hi Janet,

Thank you for your very kind words!  I hope your travel plans work out well for you, wherever you end up booking!  I am hoping to go to Australia with Travelsphere in 2021 and not all breakfasts are included, never mind lunch or dinner!!  Eek!!!  But I am hoping that a couple of travel buddies will come with me - so hopefully I won't have to brave it out by myself!

All the best,

Bob
