Hi

Can you tell me what the baggage allowance is for the internal flight CU 316 for this tour?

Many thanks

Good Morning Marion,

The weight limit for checked in baggage on this flight is 20 kg and this includes your hand luggage, which must not exceed 115 centimeters (45 inches) in total.

Kindest Regards,

Amy

That seems very ungenerous!   It's going to make packing quite difficult.  What happens if we are over the limit?

Can you tell me who the tour manager is?

Many thanks

Marion.

Hi Marion,

http://www.cubana.cu/information/bags/1

From the website, it says that 'you will be charged at 1.5% per kg of the higher one-way economy fare, but this percentage could vary according to the destination' if you go over the limit.

The TM for this tour will be Jesus Rosario Malca Machicao.

Kindest Regards,

Amy

As one who has travelled to Cuba on and off for the last 20 years I find this all very bizarre!

On my last trip 3/4 years ago there were no constraints that the weight of hand luggage was included in the 20k allowance but the airline website states "The maximum weight of the hand baggage is 5 kg. Its weight will be included as part of the total weight of your baggage to be compare with the free allowance permitted for your flight."

On all previous trips, with numerous internal flights over the years, the hand baggage allowance has never been included in the 20k allowance which was always purely for checked luggage. Hand baggage was never weighed and the only item weighed was the checked in case. Why this may have been changed by the airline is beyond me & will surely not do Cuban tourism any favours whatsoever!

I can only assume that:-

  • there has been some recent change in airline policy, or,

  • something has been lost in the translation on the airline web site.

Cubans are notorious for doing things by the letter so if it is correct that the 20k covers everything they will be very quick to add an excess charge so beware.

But perhaps it is worth clarifying this with the airline direct as it does seem odd to include the weight of hand luggage in the overall 20k allowance.

I carry cameras so this would make quite a difference to my overall packing and I am sure others have similar issues.

Do keep us updated on this one.

Ian

Thank you Amy.

As you say, it seems quite clear that the total baggage allowance on the internal flight is 20Kg, including hand baggage.

It would be interesting to hear from previous travellers of their experience re the internal flight baggage allowance, but I can't see anything on the Forum about it.

Many thanks

Marion

Hi all

I too will have an issue with baggage if the allowance for internal flights is 20kg inclusive. I carry on my camera bag with lenses too. The purpose of this holiday is to fully use my camera besides it being a tour of Cuba.

In 2016 hand luggage was definitely not included in the baggage allowance, nor was it weighed. Perhaps someone who has been to Cuba more recently can advise.

I can confirm this was also the case for 2016. Not weighed but definitely checked.

One thing to be aware of is that Cuban airport security staff are VERY VERY precise about what is and what is not allowed in hand baggage. Our internal flight was delayed because people were turned around at the departure gate and made to transfer items from their hand baggage into their checked in baggage before it was loaded on to the aircraft. Quite a few upset passengers on that flight.

What kind of things are not allowed in hand baggage?

Sorry, I know what's allowed normally in hand baggage.

I wanted to know what the additional problems were with contents of hand baggage for the internal Cuba flight?
