Hi, I just received my paperwork today and I have a few questions.

1. Can you tell me who the Tour Manager will be please? I am going on the tour that departs 18th Jan 2018

2. The documents say we will be met at either the immigration point or in the arrivals hall. I am not familiar with New Delhi airport - are these places close together? If not, which one will it be? I don't want to be standing in the wrong place!

3. Do we pay for any optional excursions in sterling or rupees? I ask only because I've now been given two different answers so I'd like to be sure.

4. Do all the hotels we are staying at have facilities to either draw cash from an ATM, or to exchange sterling for rupees? I've read somewhere that that is quite common these days but I haven't seen any mention of it on the hotel websites, and I would prefer to avoid exchanging at the airport if I don't have to.

Thank you!

Teresa

Hi Teresa,

Hopefully the following will help with your preparation.....

The Tour Manager provisionally allocated to this tour is Marsha Kargili - I've met Marsha (she's lovely) and you'll be in very safe hands as she has been to India countless times.

Marsha is travelling out with the group so will direct you as to where she will meet the group on arrival in Delhi. Keep an eye out for JY tags on luggage too as they really do stand out in the UK and overseas!

Optional excursions should be paid for in £sterling, however, your Tour Manager may accept Rupees but this cannot be guaranteed.

Most hotels will have currency exchange facilities available at reception. Their exchange rates are often listed behind the counter. If you require an ATM, I would recommend that you advise Marsha, who will be able to make sure that and ATM stop is included at some point during the day.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Thanks Julia, that is very helpful.

I do have a followup question though, and it's about taking medicines into India. I saw on the news the other day about a woman who has been jailed for taking painkillers into Egypt, and I am concerned that India might have similar rules. I have been busy putting together a medicine/first aid kit (I am determined that no minor ailments are going to ruin my holiday) but I don't want to unwittingly break the law. For example, I saw an article that suggested aspirin and ibuprofen were banned, and I was going to take both of those (alongside paracetamol).

Do you know, or can you tell me how to find out, what the rules are?

regards, Teresa

Hi Teresa,

The current FCO advice is that:

"You can take medicines into India as long as you carry the prescription with you. Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances are prohibited. For further information, contact the High Commission of India in London. (https://www.hcilondon.in/)."

I took both Ibuprofen and paracetamol with me (and countless other over-the-counter medication) and on my recent trip the tour manager also arranged for a "pharmacy run" for those who had forgotten a few bits.

Kindest regards.

Julia

Hi

When I went to Kerala I had taken paracetamol, lemsip, medication for upset tummies besides my prescription medication. Nothing was checked. I think the biggest problem would occur if you took a large amount. Having said this, I recently read that you can't take Vicks Inhalers to Japan, which I find incredible as surely one can't get addicted to Vicks Inhaler? I always take one with me to use on the plane and, if required, during the holiday. Will have to remember not to take one to Japan if and when I get a chance to go there!

Regards

Jaya

I'm still wondering how much money to take?
