I'm booked on the Chile tour for next year and I'm just wondering when we are in the Atacama area what altitude will we be at - when staying in San Pedro and also visiting the sites?  I'm just wondering would altitude sickness be an issue?  Could you please look into this for us and report back?

This tour travels to altitudes around 8,000 feet, a height at which you may begin to feel the effects of altitude sickness. This should not be a problem, although everyone has to take it easy. If you suffer from high blood pressure, respiratory conditions or have other concerns, please consult a doctor before you book this holiday.

San Pedro de Atacama lies at the entrance to the driest desert on earth, the Atacama Desert. The town itself sits at an average of 2,407 metres, just over the threshold for altitude sickness so a minority of visitors experience mild discomfort such as dizziness or headaches.

Thanks for the info - and I've already booked this holiday!!  I've been at 10,000ft in Yellowstone NP and was fine, so I should be ok in Chile then too.  I was a bit concerned about the Tatio Geysers as I think they are about 12,000ft but if that's the only really high spot then we'll only be there for a couple of hours so I think that should be fine.
