Hi,

I have booked this holiday for next May, but am a bit worried about the fitness level needed.  One of the day's is 10 miles in about 4 hours with "rest stops", which sounds more like a route march than walk.  I have a reasonable level of fitness, but am not far off 60 so not as athletic as I used to be.

Hi Lindsay,

This walking holiday is actually easier than most other walking holidays.

There’s a guide at the front and a tour manager at the back, so the group naturally split into 2 groups depending on the level of fitness.

Here’s some more detailed info on the walking days:

Day 2

Distance walked today: 12.5km

Estimated time: 3hrs 5 mins

Grade: Moderate

Day 3

Distance walked today: 12.02km

Elevation climbed: 126m

Estimated Time: 3hrs

Grade: Moderate

Day 4

Upon arrival in Galway you will be taken on a fascinating walking tour of the city.

You will then go onto Burren famous for it’s unique limestone landscape. This large region is home to wild donkeys and goats. Cattle roam free and their manure helps nourish the plants to grow in between klints and grikes.

Distance walked up until this point: 13km

Elevation climbed: 130m

Estimated time: 3hrs 30 mins

Grade:Moderate

Later you will walk along the Cliffs of Moher.

Distance on the cliff walk: 3.39km

Estimated time: 1hour

Grade: Easy

Hope this helps,

Kind regards,

Elisa

Hi Lindsay,

This is a holiday I would love to do at some point. So it would be great if you could write a short review on your return.

Kind Regards

Kezzer

Thanks for the info Elisa.  I think maybe I will have to see if I can change this for another holiday.  I am not sure I could cope with 25 miles of walking in 3 days.  It's a real shame as I really wanted to visit Ireland, but I think I need something a little less strenuous.

🙂 Hello Lindsay,

Just back from this trip. I am 70 and walk about a mile most days and 5 miles once a month.

The walks on this trip have a guide at the rear so you can cut the walk short at any time after about the first half.

On our trip we had an 80 year oLd lady and a Gent who came for the Craic but did not do walking. They both did all of the walks and the Gent decided to join a walking group on his return home.

One lady did struggle but did Two walks and half of one.

The last day was a 7 mile and a 3 mile walk but the 3 mile was at the cliffs of Moher so none of us did the Last 3 miles as there was more than enough to do at the cliffs.

I struggled a bit on the 7 mile walk, uneven ground in pouring rain but it was brilliant and we all felt a sense of achievement at the end particularly when we were chatting about it in the hotel bar ! 🙂
