Hello Julia,

Please can you advise whether there is enough time on the Florence excursion to climb the Duomo. I suspect there won't be but it would be nice to know in advance.

Kind regards

Sharon

Hello Sharon,

I have been informed by a colleague that there is time to climb the Duoma and that it is "well worth it".

I would however recommend that you have a quick chat with your Tour Manager on the day to check itinerary timings.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi, Sharon

I did this tour in September of last year. We got off the coach about 30 minutes walk from the City Centre - all coaches drop off at the same point.

We then met up with local guide and walked towards the centre.

We then had free time for lunch, and more sightseeing or shopping. I think that it was about 2/3 hours of free time.

The one thing to mention it is very very crowded. I have never seen so many tour coaches dropping off groups.

Douglas.

Hi Douglas,

Thank you for your insight into the Florence excursion; it's good to have some idea of timescales. I appreciate that you can only really scratch the surface in a day trip; it's a shame Florence is not available as an add-on.

Your comment about coaches reminded me of what it is like at the Chelsea Flower Show, I'll prepare myself for similar!

Many thanks

Sharon

I was on the trip at the beginning of October and they dropped us off against the Arno and then we had a guided tour. It was tremendously busy but we certainly had a good couple of hours free time. The thing you have to factor in is having to get tickets to get into some of the places and then perhaps wait again to get inside. I wanted to get to see Michelangelo's tomb but by the time we had eaten and got back the line was quite long and I would have not been able to spend the time there that I wanted. If I had had got my act together I would have headed straight back to see the tomb and then tried to grab a bite to eat.

It's an amazing city and the guided walk was really good and we got to see quite a lot. Enjoy your visit.

Thank you Bosuncat, that's really helpful and something to bear in mind. It's a shame that you didn't get to see Michaelangelo's tomb; I hope that one day you will be able to go back and see what you missed.

Many thanks

Sharon
