Hi Ben,

I'm flying to Heathrow from Manchester on 27th September and have to reclaim my luggage and get from Terminal 5 to 3. Not being familier with Heathrow someone suggested I use Skycaps - a porterage service. I'll only have one medium sized trolley-case plus hand luggage - that's not a problem - it's the rest of it!! Can you tell me anything about Skycaps and the charges please? I've put several messages on the website asking if anyone else is flying from Manchester (Texas holiday) but to no avail.

Thanks,

Pat

Hi Pat,

Don't bother with Skycaps, it's not cheap (see www.skycaps.com).

When you land at T5 and collect your case, go into the arrivals hall and it is well sign-posted to the other terminals, you can take the underground or the Heathrow Express trains for free travel to connect between all terminals.

Then at T3 you go to Departures and the airline check-in desk for your flight, there is usually a JY airport rep to assist you and your Tour Manager might be there - it depends on where you are going and whether the TM will already be at the arrival airport.

Because you are doing a long-haul holiday, you will also have a lounge pass, so once you are through security you can go to the lounge and meet your fellow travellers. Just look out for the JY labels on their hand luggage!

Enjoy the tour,

Sarah

I agree with Sarah, don't bother with getting someone else involved with your luggage. Just follow the signs at Heathrow, I've always found things well sign posted and if in doubt there are always a lot of people around to ask.

Only 4 weeks to go now.

Hi Sarah,

Thankyou for your reply but now I'm even more confused as other people I have asked say you get a bus between terminals. No mention of trains or the underground. I think I'll wait for Ben's reply and pay for Skycaps. Just another penalty for living 'oop North!!

Cheers, Pat

Hi Pat,

Please don't worry yourself about it. Although I am in and out of airports on a regular basis, it really is straightforward. I think there is a bus service, but the Heathrow Express option is very easy. If you are concerned about carrying your bags, you can take the luggage trolley down to the train and pick one up at the other end.

I'm sure once you get into the T5 arrivals hall you'll be fine and as Caroline said, there are always people to ask.

In any case, you can always decide when you get there as Skycaps are waiting.

Regards,

Sarah

Hi Pat

When I travelled with JY in April, I had to transfer from T5 to T3. I followed the signs and got the bus. The way is well signposted and there were plenty of staff on the way to help.

Try not to worry about it, you will be fine.

Have a great holiday.

This should help, as you will be collecting your luggage at terminal 5 you aren't technically connecting - so follow the advice for 'I'm not connecting, I just want to get between terminals'. This clearly tells you the options (Heathrow Express or Underground). It is free and stations are right at terminal 3. Personally I wouldnt want to give someone else my luggage just in case it doesn't find it's way to where it needs to be.

And consider yourself lucky you have the option to fly to Heathrow. I live 3.5 hours away with no regional airport!

Alternatively walk out of terminal 5 and get a taxi to terminal 3. Probably would work out cheaper than the Skycaps thing!

Hi Pat

Whatever you do, go not use taxis between terminals. The cost is EXTORTIONATE. Probably £30.00 plus.
