I gather from the forum that this is the last JY trip to Costa Rica.

Is there anyone out there that is on the trip?

Is it guaranteed to go? I have booked on this one as was unable to go in Oct.

This is my first time with JY, does anyone have any tips for traveling with JY or visiting CR?

Thanks.

Hi Debbie, I am up in the north midlands, Nottinghamshire.

Hi went on this amazing trip last year, I am sure you will have a fantastic time, just make sure you take good insect repellent and some comfortable footwear, hope you get to see lots of wild life, enjoy

Hi Debbie, Guess I was being lazy, looked malaria up and yes we need the tabs. I will look into which type.

Got my heavy duty beasty repellent!

Still working out what to do about getting to LHR for the unsocial departure as there is no executive airport lounge in T5 although it says use of executive airport lounge on day 1 in brochure. It would have been idea for traveling down and freshening up before the flight.

Hi everyone

Where did you get the information re maleria tablets, as when i went for a "fit for travel" consult at my Gp surgery, i was told i didnt need maleria tablets. Also looking at the "fit for travel" website map of costa rica, it shows low risk maleria for where we are going.

Hi

Like Lucinda I was told by the travel nurse at my GP surgery that I don't need malaria tablets for the areas we visit on this holiday as they come in the 'no to low risk' area. The fitfortravel.scot.nhs site for Costa Rica says that for 'no to low risk' areas antimalarials are not normally advised. I have visited low risk areas on other holidays without taking antimalaria tablets and follow the cover up after dusk and use insect repellent routine, you can also get a repellent to spray on your clothes to help stop being bitten through them.

I have every faith in my travel nurse, I guess its up to each individual to follow whatever advice they are happy with. I have read that antimalaria tablets do go a long way to the prevention of malaria but they are not guaranteed 100% effective, the avoidance of bites is the real way to go, easy to say I know especially if you are someone mosquitoes like to feed on.

Thanks for that - i don't usually take malaria tabs if I can help it but a quick look showed a threat. Following your messages further investigation shows as you say no real requirement.

Suppose I'd better get to the travel nurse at my GPs.

Hi Debbie

I'm also on the trip to Costa Rica in November -cannot wait not long to go now! Looking forward to meeting you. I've read the thread about the maleria tabs but my GP told me I didn't need any - I've just some really smelly tropical spray instead hopefully keep them away!!
