Climate & Clothing
Lightweight cottons and linens with rainwear are advised for the coast and lakeside. Warmer clothing is needed in June and July and for the cooler mornings on the coast. Lightweights are needed for much of the year in the highlands. Rainwear is advisable between March and June and October and December. A warm jacket/sweater is advisable for early morning and late evening safaris.
Kenya enjoys relatively high temperatures, reaching highs of 94°F in Mombasa. Rain showers between April to early June can be expected. The remainder of the year is Kenya’s dry season.
Safari
• The safari drives are taken early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Before sunrise & after sunset temperatures can be cold so it is advisable to take an extra warm layer like a jacket or a warm fleece. Throughout the safaris, layers of clothing are best, long sleeved shirt & long cotton trousers are handy if any mosquitoes are around.
• Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for this kind of holiday.
• Luggage - For the safari portion of this holiday a soft sided holdall type bag is required rather than a large suitcase as all the luggage travels with you in the vehicles. A separate bag can be taken for the beach portion of your holiday.
• Road conditions can vary greatly. They can be bumpy and dusty or muddy, depending on the season.
• Important items to take: - Sunglasses, sun lotion, insect repellent, hat, camera, lots of film, lightweight binoculars are also useful
• A small day bag/rucksack is recommended to keep items in during the safari drives
• A torch is useful for the lodges
