Hello all

I just wanted to let you know about Vitalise, a charity that matches up visually impaired people with volunteers who help them make the most of their holiday.

If you don't have any issues with your sight, volunteering to assist a visually impaired person on selected holidays with our sister company Travelsphere will not only enable them to enjoy a holiday but also save you around 20% on the cost of your own tour.

If this sounds like something you'd like to get involved in, visit the Vitalise website at www.vitalise.org.uk/holidays

Kind regards,

Olly, your editor

More information about Vitalise

National disability charity Vitalise is working in partnership with Travelsphere to provide an innovative range of escorted, supported and accessible group holidays for visually impaired people, accompanied by volunteer sighted guides. Each year Vitalise Holidays takes groups of visually impaired and sighted holidaymakers on adventures around the globe in search of fun, friendship and excitement.

The unique group structure and social mix on the holidays enables the visually impaired travellers to derive the most from the destinations they visit, while at the same time providing inspiring and rewarding ‘voluntourism’ opportunities for sighted people. This innovative formula ensures that both parties gain from their holiday experience.

The success of this ground-breaking concept depends on the energy and enthusiasm of the volunteer sighted guides, who accompany the visually impaired travellers and are matched up with them on a rotating one-to-one basis, enabling everyone to get to know each other over the course of the holiday. The volunteer guides help the visually impaired holidaymakers get around and take part in the various activities, as well as providing practical support and companionship. In return for the crucial part they play, the guides receive their holidays at a discounted rate.

Thanks to Travelsphere’s extensive network, Vitalise Holidays will be taking escorted groups on holidays to long-haul destinations including New Zealand, Peru, China, South Africa and the American West Coast this year, while in Europe, the destinations include Russia, Tuscany, Turkey, Croatia and Spain.

Mate, I would like to look into this. My mom is going blind (age related wet MACD) and I have met some really cool people through a charity she belongs to "Tape aids for the blind" in SA. I am going travelling in SA in July but happy to meet up and discuss before I go.

Cheers,

Another Ollie
