Hi Olly,

Due to recent event I'm considering doing one of the european coach holidays at christmas and have a question. The ones I'm looking at the ferry sails from Dover mid morning and as I'd be travelling down from the York area I suspect the National express bus to Dover would be the overnight one.

My Question - Would it be possible (without significant extra cost if any) to travel to Dover the day before arriving late afternoon ?

The reason is if I go for one of these holidays I'd rather book a Dover hotel the night before than start my holiday tired.

Thanks

Mick

Hi Mick

That sounds like a good idea.

Our holiday advisors should be able to help you with this - it's possible that you may need to book a separate National Express ticket with us. These start at about £32.

We can also book a Dover hotel for you if you wish. Again, our holiday advisors will be happy to help.

Kind regards

Olly, your editor

Hi Mick (& Olly) - hope you are okay.

I have done the Xmas coach holidays for the past 4 years - Austria, Germany & the Dolomites twice - although this year I am going to Prague instead, so flying.

Have I got it wrong - for the past four years the 'feeder' coach picked us up locally and took us down to Dover ready for the mid-morning crossing on the ferry (& the all-important Full English breakfast). They do the interchange on the docks at Dover then drive onto the ferry and continue onwards from Calais.

Looking in the brochure for this year, the details are the same as before in past years, so Mick the coach trip down to Dover is included in the price. You just have to state which pick-up point you want - I think for you it would probably be in the Leeds area. I know it means an early start but it is not that bad - stops on the way and all the planning done for you.

If you are considering the European coach trips I can only say that I have had 4 brilliant Xmas holidays - excursions whilst there & of course the Xmas party at night. Just You even ordered the snow for us!

Best wishes,

Lesley

Hi Lesley,

Yes I realise the coach picks you up locally but to get to Dover or mid morning I'd be leaving Yorkshire around midnight and would be strating my holiday very tired. Was wondering the cost implications of travelling to dover the day before and spending a night in a hotel.

Not quite decided I've a lot going on at present (sadly lost my Dad recently who I was carer for) and a christmas trip is looking appealing.

Hi Mick,

So sorry to hear your sad news - Yes I definitely think an Xmas holiday will make things easier for you. It will do you good - and take the edge off things because they are really good fun. I never want to be at home for Xmas. I used to dread Xmas - now I love it!

I really wasn't trying to tell you what to do & maybe going down to Dover the day before will suit you better. My coach pick-up has been around 2.30 a.m. in the past but I am used to it now and know others who start even earlier, so it is not a problem. So whatever you decide, certainly give the Xmas holiday some serious thought. I do know they get booked up quite quickly though.

Have a great Xmas (wherever you go)

Best wishes,

Lesley
