Hi. I'm booked on the June trip to Peru. I've seen the threads about wearing layers but wondered about footwear.. is the walking particularly difficulct; shoudl I get proper walking walking/hiking shoes or would a more general flat be ok? SOmething like a trainer style which has support?

Thanks

Hi Michelle,

The best source of information for this is with past passengers within the forum and placing a post in 'tour managers', the appropriate TM will get back to you. I would personally advise proper walking shoes as I believe the walking is not particularly difficult but frequent,

Hope this helps

Thanks

Ben

Hi

I did the Inca Trail a couple of years ago and wore boots, but looking at your itinerary , comfortable trainers should be ok, but if you can find some of the trail shoes ( a sort of cross between trainers and walking boots, they will be better as they will offer more support)

Whatever you wear they need to be worn in, dont take brand new ones,

Machu Picchu is fantastic, and it is a lot bigger than it looks.

The Peruvian guides we had were fantastic I hope you have someone as good.

Hi Michelle,

I'm not doing this trip but I do have both walking boots and trail shoes as I do go coastal and country walking.

zippy's suggestion of trail shoes being better than trainers is definitely a good one.

Please bear in mind though that walking boots and trail shoes tend to be a snugger fit than normal shoes so you may need a larger size.

I wear one size bigger in walking boots and trail shoes than any of my other footwear.

Also, I think that if you will be doing a fair bit of walking, it is worth investing in a some proper walking socks. These will offer more cushioning than normal socks and are less likely to give you blisters. They can be rinsed out and dried overnight so you would not need to buy many pairs.

And when trying trail shoes on it's best to try them on with the type of sock you'll be wearing.

I know it's an additional expense but it's got to be better then risking ruining an expensive holiday by having aching legs, and sore and blistered feet?

Hope that helps? Enjoy your trip.

Julian 🙂
