Just saying hello to anyone else on this tour  🙂

Hello Gainer, I'm saying hello back - so good to make contact with someone else who's going. It was beginning to feel like the Marie Celeste.

I'm flying out from LHR, and am wondering about packing. I'd like to hear from our Tour Manager, Lezli, who must have some tips about what currencies to take and what clothes. I'm relying on the tips given by Sharron, who was TM a few years ago.

How about you?

Hi sorry taken a while to get back to, I am also flying from heathrow on the TUESDAY evening flight so hopefully we may be on the same one. I am taking all USA dollars which I have already purchased and will also take my credit card. I am taking casual comfy day time clothes and taking some more dressier clothes for the evenings as it looks like we have a few dinners together in the hotels and I am sure we will all go out somewhere on a night. Where abouts do you live ?. Regards lesley Gainer

Hi Gainer, I live near York. How about you?

I saw that the 2017/8 group were told (by TMSHARRON) not to bring heels or formal clothes or jewellery.

Peter G's review of Feb 18 is useful too.

But we need our TM Lezli to update us and tell us what she suggests, so I hope we hear from her.

We're touring so I'm taking the minimum, so that I can fill my case from the markets!

This is my first JY trip, tho I've been on 3 OT ones which were excellent.

I'm aiming to be at the LHR Terminal 2 Lounge in good time - by 17.30-18.00 at the latest. When are you arriving?

Hi i live in hull so we are really close by, i am flying from Leeds the day before and staying over in the Staybridge Suites, i have booked 2 nights so can leave when i want. The check in will not open till 3 hours before so i am aiming to get to heathrow at 6.40. As far as the clothes go i am just taking some slightly smarter clothes for evenings but they are by no means formal. I was told there were only 11 on the tour but this could have changed. I also have a feeling we are all on same flight and should be able to find each other in the lounge if we have our luggage labels on our hand luggage.

Yes, I'm delighted that it's such a small group - that's brilliant. You're not far away in Hull. I'm staying on Monday night with my son in London, so should make Heathrow in good time. With my luggage labels and my lounge pass, so I'll look out for you. I'm sure we'll all be on the same flight.

I rang JY yesterday to find out why I knew so little, and it turns out I hadn't been sent all the final information. I've got it now, and feel a bit better informed at last. Now that I've got details about the hotels, I'll have a closer look.

I've been to Mexico several times and worked in South America but never been to Central America, so am really looking forward to it. The combination of wildlife, research stations, off piste travel and some of the most iconic Mayan sites made it a must-do trip for me. I'm taking binoculars and camera/phone, and must check they're all working. Let me know if you have any other thoughts on what to take (might take some Yorkshire tea bags, always a good idea!).

Hi heather good job you rang and have now had all final info, I reced it 2 or 3 weeks ago and have had good read thro the itinerary and it looks great. The hotels also look good too. Are you taking a course of mosquito tablets I have purchased them but they sometimes make me quite ill which is difficult when touring. I have packed 3 travel plugs, plenty hand sanitizer, yellow fever certificate, small torch and tea bags!! Starting to get excited now, looking forward to meeting you and all the other travelers.

Hi to you both!  I've been to several countries in Central America, but haven't done this tour - yet!! Would one of you be willing to write a review when you return please, which could help me to make up my mind whether to put it on the list or not?  I'd be particularly interested in the amount of wildlife you see (although I know this can vary from trip to trip to the same locations!) and how you viewed security/safety issues in the regions visited.

Many thanks,

Bob

Hi Lesley, no, I'm not taking malaria pills, was advised it wasn't necessary so I'll smear myself with lotion and spray instead - but it's good to be on the safe side. Yes to yellow fever certificate. Just bought a new phone with good camera, and a digital camera as well, so will be fumbling around with new tech - bad timing. Got my torch, sun hat, sun glasses, several adapters, and am wearing my walking boots to travel - a bit big but v comfy. It looks as tho there will be some rough ground to walk on. I'm guessing that piece of paper with the flight itineraries is all we need as flight tickets? And are you taking 3 colour copies of your passport page? See you on Tuesday. I leave home tomorrow to drive to my daughter's, so have to finish packing today. Lots left to do.

Hi Bob, yes, I plan to write a review - we really need an updated one, I would have welcomed that. I feel a bit in the dark about the trip (tho it sounds fabulous and I'm sure it will be). As with most trips on safari in Africa and India, the amount of wildlife is so variable, so I'm relaxed about how much and what I actually see - it's just being there that counts most. I'm looking forward so much to being back in a Latin American atmosphere, seeing the people, the markets, the architecture, and for me, the Mayan archaeology. I love the combination of ecology, history and archaeology on this trip, and the fact that there will only be 11 people - that's a really small group, so we should move around quite easily. Fingers crossed re security - but just getting there despite coronavirus will be an achievement.
