Just booked for this trip next year and experiencing great excitement and even greater terror!  Ever done anything like this on my own before so any hints, tips would be really helpful. What should I take money wise, clothes wise, where can I eat when meals not included? Aaaaaarrrgh! What have I let myself in for?

Looks at the reviews people have posted. I have not done this tour so cannot comment. I have done many other tours.

Clothes, dress for comfort and layers works best, comfy shoes.

Money wise budget for meal drinks and comfort stops and souvenirs, I normally take cash, and then credit and debit cards as back up just in case. People normally buddy up for meals if they are not included depending on your meal taste, you do not always stay in the whole group size.

Also allow money for extra excursions, flights, things to do while away either with the group,or independantley

It all works out very well, I have seen the world in a very safe way and met some great people on my journeys.

You have let yourself in for an experience which hopefully will be the start of your travelling addiction if you are anything like most JY newbies.

As Nixon says look at the reviews.  I did Kerala last year which is slightly different in climate and culture but layers work best in any climate.  Take a big scarf/pashmina in case you need to cover up at any time, lots of wet wipes and toilet tissue.  You can't take rupees from GB but the tour manager will arrange for you to obtain currency when you arrive either by changing usually USD or using an ATM.

You will have a wonderful time.

Thanks a lot. Didn't realise I couldn't take rupees in! That's really helpful

Hi

When have you booked for? I have booked the April tour - like you I'm excited but also very nervous.

I'd love to go to India but have had food poisoning in Malta and had to go to hospital. Needless to say I worry that it could happen again, esp in India. Can anyone reassure me please/

Hi

I have a bowel condition and have done both Spirit of India and Kerala trips without having any problems. My advice is to keep your hands as clean as possible, use hand gel frequently and eat only cooked food.

Hope this reassures you.
