Hello fellow travellers,

I have just booked my 4th tour with Just You to USA's National Parks in September - excited and a bit nervous as always.  I know it's not an exact science but I wonder if anyone who has been to the USA could give me a very ROUGH guide as to the price of an average meal.  I know that everyone's appetites and tastes differ but any advice at all would be gratefully received so that I can try to budget accordingly.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi I did this tour in Sept 2013 and it is amazing!!  It is hard to budget for food while away for sure but I generally allow $50 a day and take a bit extra for unforeseen expenses!  On quite a few days you'll be stopping at petrol stations/general stores to get a snack lunch so these will be cheaper.  On the other hand, I've found the US to be a bit pricey for food in general and you might like to have dinner in a nice restaurant on occasion as well.  Also depends on whether you like a few drinks in the evening or not!  I'd be inclined to take around $800 or more in cash and of course you can always go to an ATM as well.  I know some people take the new currency cards with them but I haven't used them, so can't comment there.  Have a great time!

Actually cost for food varies. It is difficult to say any exact figure as you say everyone's appetites and tastes differ that's the main reason. Are you traveling with you friends or family that also affect your cost. I agree with Bob that it will cost you around $40-$50 with casual snacks and heavy meal.

Hi Jilly

I'll be accompanying you and Mandy on 13 September - a large group at 32. Haven't even thought about food and spending money yet though!

Regards
