Hi all

I'm really excited and a bit nervous to say that I have paid my deposit for the Sri Lanka tour September 2016.

I've never been away with a group before. Is anyone else here going to Sri Lanka or if you have been can you tell me your experience. I am also pondering on what sort of clothing will be most suitable, any advice and tips would be great.

Above all I'm looking forward to having a trip of a life time!

Hello Louise

I was in Sri Lanka last August (not with JY, and a slightly longer itinerary) and loved it: it is still my favourite India/Far East destination, as it packs so much into such a small island. Highlights included the elephants in Minneriya and elsewhere, the ascent of Sigiriya (easier than it looks!), the Tooth Relic temple in Kandy, the train journey up to Nuwara Eliya, and the fabulous sunsets on the SW coast. The Grand Hotel is straight out of the 1930s, an ideal setting for Poirot or Miss Marple!

The weather was generally a comfortable 28-30 with occasional highs of 32-34. August is technically in a monsoon period (I am not sure about September), but we only had two showers , in Galle and on the SE coast. I took light summer clothing suitable for India and the east - and an umbrella. It can be a bit cooler in the evenings up in the hills, so you may need a fleece there if you feel the cold. Lots of wildlife (including birds and monkeys); I don't recall seeing many insects, and certainly no mosquitoes.

It should certainly be the trip of a lifetime!

I was in Sri Lanka last August,  possibly on the same trip as Jim.   We were lucky with the weather in the hills a comfortable 18 to twenty degrees, but the the temperature week before  had dropped to only sixteen. I would certainly recommend  taking a warm fleece or jacket  in case....  On the coast it was very  humid. Later in the year would be more comfortable  on the  coast, but cold and wet in the hills. Sri Lanka  is a beautiful and diverse country. Don't forget to take some thick socks for visiting temples, where the dress code is bare feet and head and covered and shoulders.

I'm going to Sri Lanka too in september. It will also be my first trip with just you. Very excited but there is also nerves in there! But I'm sure we will be fine

Seen on the news that there is really bad flooding. That's a bit of a worry.

Started to get the bug spray ready. Need to go clothes shopping!

Hi Paul,

I have just spoken to the team and they are looking in to your booking today as the flight seats attached to this tour are currently on request.

To explain, a holiday is considered "on request" when we have have returned an element of the holiday to our suppliers - this may be flight seats or hotel rooms. In a large number of cases, we are able to rebook these at a later date on an ad-hoc basis (although this sometimes incurs an extra charge which you would be notified of before you confirm your booking).

Don't worry, the team will try their hardest to get you on your preferred holiday.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Paul

It is always best to book the holiday as soon as you decide you want to go as places get filled very quickly. I am planning on going to Sri Lanka next year so do write a review on your return. Have a fantastic holiday if you manager to get on the tour.

Hi Paul,

We'll be re-sending the visa application via post today (1st class).

If you could complete it and resend it back to us as soon as possible that'll be great. Our Visa Team will process it and you should receive your visa in your final documents approximately 2 weeks prior departure.

Kind regards,

Elisa
