Hello all Borneo travellers

ITV thursday night at 9pm, Paul o' Grady's Animal Orphans programme could be good to watch. He is at the Sepilok Orang-utan rehabilitation centre.

Read in the Daily mail weekend magazine that he struggles to cope with heat and said "This is like going through hell in a pair of gasoline drawers"

At least I think most of us going on 19th May are well prepared for the heat when it hits.

Leeches

Apparently leeches don't hurt you, just make you bleed a bit. My friend was "leeched" in Kerala.

My guide book-thank you Sue for sending me this book-states using salt on them if they attack you.

Might just put a few salt sachets which i can pick up in any cafe, in my rucksack.

Best wishes Di

Hi Di,

Thanks for the heads up regarding the Paul O'Grady programme; hope it's also showing in Ireland!  Being prepared for the heat/humidity and actually dealing with it when the time comes will be two different things!

I mentioned on the other thread about leeches - you probably missed it as there were so many posts!  Yes they don't do you any harm so I'm not going to worry about them too much.  If our local guide advises us to get leech socks I'll do that but otherwise I'll just use my mossie repellent socks instead.  Yes seemingly salt does work well on them - I also mentioned tiger balm which you can get from many pharmacies which is also meant to work very well and might be a little less messy than salt, which I imagine would stick together and go all gloopy in the humidity!

The time is flying by - won't be long now!

Cheers,

Bob

Or spray the leech with your insect repellant. Makes them shrivel up a bit and you can brush them off

( or make someone else knock them off in my case, too squeamish to touch them LOL !)

Thanks Nelson, it's encouraging that they don't like DEET either!

Cheers,

In Kerala the local guide also carried salt with him. Salt does to leeches what it does to slugs! Leeches may be harmless and they are only after your blood, but I rather they stay away from me. Saw them for the first time in Kerala and did not like them a bit!
