Hi I've just finished reading the current issue of Wanderlust (a great travel magazine and much better than Lonely Planet as far as I'm concerned!) and was blown away by their mini guide to the isle of Skye and this got me thinking it would be a great destination for JY! It looks stunning beautiful with a unique landscape, lots to see and some great places to eat! What do you and the powers that be think, Monty? And what do other JY travellers think? Any other suggestions for new tours?

Cheers,

Bob

Bob, you know we love a good suggestion or two (Route 66, America's Heart and Soul, Bordeaux - just to name a few started their life here on the community). I'll forward it on to the holiday creators and see what they think.

Obviously, we'd love to hear what the rest of the community think (and other suggestions of course)

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Bob,

If JY do take this up then remember to take a raincoat and midge repellent. Having said that Skye is superb and The Three Chimneys pricey but worth it.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Scotland but only really the cities and furthest north I have been is Inverness, One of the disadvantages of not being able to drive I guess.

I would love the thought of the Isle of Skye.

Bob, that is a great suggestion. I love Skye. In mid March this year I was staying within driving distance and decided to take a trip to Elgol. On the journey over from Invermoriston I thought I was the only person on the planet as I hardly saw a car. The blue sky and the snow capped mountains made for a breathtaking journey.

Being a hopeless reverser I spent the whole drive over the single track road on the island hoping nothing was going to come the other way and I was lucky! The view of the Cuillins from the little harbour there is wonderful.

I have been over on the island in April, once during a snowstorm and another time during a heatwave. During a June visit I was almost unable to open the car door due to a gale. Whatever the weather it is spectacular. On one April break I walked from Dunvegan over to Coral Bay. After walking up the rise the first view of it was like looking at a travel brochure where the sand is white and the sea various degrees of turquoise.

Some people may like a walking holiday there but for those who may not be so fit a Gourmet break in Skye would be an idea as there seems to be a plethora of good eating places. Instead of vineyards there is the Talisker distillery, the Isle of Skye brewing company and a micro brewery.

Hi everyone and thanks for your replies! Thanks for the tips Sylvia and thanks Rae for all that info - hopefully it has given JY food for thought! I am sure they could either do a short trip just to Skye with a gourmet theme and a little walking thrown in (not too much please!!) or as part of a longer trip, starting on the mainland and perhaps visiting a number of the islands? I don't know Scotland well enough to comment further although I have been to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen and places in between - but that was as a teenager on family holidays!

Anyone got any other suggestions for new tours? This might help spark off a bit of debate on the forum as it has been very quiet recently!

For what it's worth I'd love to see Morocco offered at another time other than Christmas (and a full week tour including the Atlas mountains at that!), Georgia/Armenia, Iran (but I suppose that depends on how things are in the wider Middle East), a second National Parks tour to the US visiting parks not covered on the current tour, Ethiopia, Thailand and Russia (to include the Golden Ring). That's enough to be going on with I think!!

Cheers,

Bob

Bob, great suggestion, not thought of Skye and Northern Scotland. Like you not been there so wouldn't know how to structure/combine a tour to Skye with other Scottish locations - foodie tour with whisky tastings and a bit of walking sounds terrific.

I've got so many tours on my "to do" list already, but happy to see lots of new tours and add to it. (Hoping to do some Asia tours in 2016, especially including Burma, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos).

My new tour wishlist has Iran at the top. But would also like to see more US tours, the TS tour starting in San Francisco and ending in Vancouver looks good; would also be good to see better music tours taking in Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Branson etc; also tours covering less mainstream bits eg Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, Maine etc. And, of course, skiing holidays!

I love the idea of Skye especially if it could include some railway journeys and other islands. No good to you Bob but I would also love a trip to Northern Ireland doing something a bit different to the standard fare.

Going further abroad, more in Scandinavia. Summer trip to Iceland is high on the list after the Northern Lights trip earlier this year and I am possibly going to Sweden, Finland, Lapland and Norway with another company in September next year. Russia also high on the list and I too would like to see Morocco on offer away from Christmas.

Hi Bob,

I can suggest Morocco for you,(incl. Atlas) March, October and November. Ask Monty/Julia for for my email if you are interested. With regard to other islands, CalMac used to do Island Hopper tours. Not sure if they still do them though.

Iceland in the summer sounds good.

I'd like a Las Vegas tour too but it needs to be at least 10 nights long with at least 4 days in Vegas. Plus flights from Manchester.

I also like Bob's suggestion. Would like to visit the fairy rock pools on the Isle of Skye.

Russia has been knocked on the head as a destination for the foreseeable future due to rigid visa application requirements that came in on 10th December 2014 - that most Just You customers won't put up with. You have to visit the Russian Embassy's visa handling centre in London or its Consulate in Edinburgh - in person - to have your fingerprints and photograph taken during the visa application. Postal applications for visas are no longer accepted for any purpose. This is probably their idea of retaliation as the UK now requires all Russians wanting a visa to visit the UK to go to the British Embassy in Moscow to have their fingerprints and photograph taken. (i.e. we started it and they have responded in kind with a tit-for-tat response.)

I visited Russia in April 2014 with Just You on a postal visa; lovely holiday BTW. Someone on a different tour I went on in October told me they were booked on a Russia tour for earlier this year, but when Just You told him that he had to queue up at 8:30 in the morning in London for a slot that day in person he said he wouldn't have booked had he known because that meant extra travel costs and costs for an overnight stay the night before. It seems many people felt likewise so the tours were cancelled, everyone got a full refund of their deposit, and Russia has been taken off the tour list.

Hi thanks for the comments regarding Russia, I had heard that the visa requirements had changed - ridiculous tit for tat bureaucracy! Hopefully diplomatic relations will improve and a Russia tour will come back on the radar once again. I'm fully booked up with holidays for next year but am already thinking of 2017!!

When I visited Inverness in 2013 with the Jacobite Steam holiday and Just You, they took us over the Skye Bridge, took photos then drove back. Most I have seen 🙂 Would like to see more of Scotland and of course Wales. Have still not stayed in Cardiff ! Lake District has always been on my To Do list. Not been there in over 20 years.

Hi Wanny, Dublin is where I'm from! JY did run a tour to Ireland a couple of years ago that included Belfast and Dublin but it wasn't around for long! The walking tour of the Wild Atlantic Way looks very good....
