Did my posting not come through??? How weird! Never had a problem before?

Did you go any where nice?

OK my posting was about age!!!

Not that the age question bothers me one bit, but as there seems to be postings on AGE yet again, I was wondering if JY have a specific age band they are aiming at, like some other tour travel company's do? I read somewhere you have to be 18 and over to book but there isn't an age cut off or if there is I have missed that. I think since I started using JY in 2006 the age has got slightly younger, but then again that might be because I Am getting older?

Hope this comes through to you. Won't waffle in any longer just in case it doesn't.

Hi Cindy,

I hadn't seen it, but more than happy to comment.

I had noticed that there have been a number of comments about age and it has been interested in seeing everyone's thoughts and opinions.

When Just You started it was predominantly aimed at travellers aged 50+. However, the market has changed and whilst the majority of our travellers still fall in to this group we understand that Just You is a safe way for solo travellers of all ages to travel. So, as long as you have a desire to see the world, then we are more than happy for a traveller over the age of 18 to join our holidays.

On a personal note, I have been on a couple of Just You holidays and think I can echo the comments of a number of our travellers (including you) in that 'age is just a number'. I've held some of the most interesting conversations, laughed so much and made new friends with travellers of all ages. Had Just You enforced an age restriction I would never have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people.

So in short, there is no cut off age, as long as you are over the age of 18 you are welcome to book a Just You holiday 🙂

Kindest regards,

Julia

P.S. It was just a long weekend at home - I have quite a bit of annual leave to use up so I'm now working 4 day weeks until Christmas (leaving the Just You Community in the very capable hands of Tim once a week).

Hello Julia

I've just been catching up on a few posts and its surprising what little bits of info you pick up along the way, I had no idea that JY was originally predominantly aimed for the 50+.

When I booked my first "taster" to Tuscany back in 2005 I was extremely apprehensive as to what I was letting myself in for i.e. would JY be a good company to travel with, would I enjoy myself on my own, would I get along with everyone else, you know, all the usual stuff that goes through your mind when you do something for the first time, but working with people of all ages the one thing that never even crossed my mind was how old my fellow travellers would be because it's something that doesn't bother me. It was a mixed age group as have been all my holidays since and I had just assumed it had always been an all age company. It just goes to show what a good reputation JY has to be able to build and to attract people of all ages beyond what its original aims were for.

I FOUND ON MY LAST HOLIDAY THAT THE YOUNGER PEOPLE

ON OUR TOUR TENDED TO STICK TOGETHER AND LEFT US

OLDER PEOPLE TO FIND OTHERS TO GO AROUND WITH.

PERHAPS I WAS UNLUCKY BUT THERE DEFINATELY WAS

A SPLIT. IT COULD BE JUST DIFFERENT INTERESTS BETWEEN

THE TWO AGE GROUPS. I AM ALWAYS GLAD WHEN I SEE

THERE ARE OTHERS OF MY AGE (60'S) GOING. ITS GOOD TO

KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY OF MY AGE GROUP GOING.

THIS YEAR I AM GOING TO ST LUCIA IN MAY AND WHEN I

LAST HEARD THERE WERE ONLY 2 PEOPLE BOOKED SO I

ASSUME IT WILL BE CANCELLED IF IT STILL STAYS THE SAME.

THAT IS NOT WHAT I INTENDED TO GET ON TO. IT WAS THE

AGE THING I WAS ANSWERING.

Hello Sue

Maybe you were just unlucky on the occasion you mention, I must say that I have never noticed younger people sticking together and leaving older ones to find someone to go around with on any of the holidays I have been on, but then every holiday is different. Of course, there is that much discussed subject of cliques forming on some holidays but I'm not sure that is particularly related to age.

When you think about, on any holiday you go on you will be meeting a group of complete strangers who know nothing about each other and it takes 2 or 3 days before you even start to get to know their different personalities and finding someone you gel with, even then maybe you don't always get it right first time.

I think its a persons personality that counts, not their age. You don't necessarily have to have the same things in common in every day life, for me its more about if you have the same interests in your surroundings whilst on holiday. Some may like shopping in any spare time they get, and spare time is quite limited on some holidays, some may like visiting churches, temples, mosques, museums and art galleries, some like relaxing by the pool or, if they are like me, like to get out and explore the neighbourhood if safe to do so or find a nice café and watch the world go by. You can be any age to do these things, its a case of sussing out the right people to do them with. I have been fortunate in that I have been lucky and met people who were really good company and made my holiday what it was, be it male, female, older or younger.

I hope your holiday to St. Lucia goes ahead, don't give up just yet, there's still time for others to book, I guess at the moment people are thinking more towards Christmas, once that's out of the way booking next years holiday will spring into action.

Hi Avocet,

I agree with what your saying. I think people assume sometimes its age gap, when in all reality it's the mind set or the personality that attracts us to others. I have met young people who act old and old people who act young. I tend to talk to everyone - regardless and just hope I'm not the weird one on the trip (because there is usually one lol).
