Hi Jacky, I went with JY to Cambodia last year and was very impressed by their organisation. I will also be travelling to London on 5th. I haven't booked a hotel yet, but I expect I'll stay at the same one I stayed at before going to Cambodia. I'll have to check which one it was and will let you know. I'm pretty sure it was a Travelodge very close to a tube station not far from Heathrow, and was very good value. What part of Somerset are you from? I'm from Weymouth, so not too far from you. There's no need to be nervous at all, JY look after everyone very well, and you can see from the forum that everyone is friendly and the groups get on well together.

Looking forward to meeting you, Marion.

Hi jacky

Some of my mother's family were originally from the bridgewater area, but I don't think I've got any relatives there now. My great grandmother was from Wembdon.

I'm away in London at the moment, but intend to book the hotel when I get home. I'll let you know when I've done it.

If you look on the forum, there are other messages about what clothes to take. Someone recommended dressing up for Las Vegas, and someone else said it wasn't necessary! Comfortable casual seems to be the main requirement, with possibly something a little smarter for LV if you feel like it. I haven't yet checked what the weather is likely to be at that time of year. I can let you know nearer the time what sort if thing I intend to take.

Best wishes, Marion

Hello

I've just booked on this tour, have been thinking about it for a few weeks after going on my first JY trip to Berlin in June - where I had a great time, met up with some great people and Stephen our Tour Manager was really great. It was good to have so much organised for us. So really looking forward to another holiday.

I've also booked the helicopter flight to see the Grand Canyon and the boat trip around SF harbour, so I've got some extra trips to look forward to. I'm also looking forward to see Las Vegas - as its somewhere I've always wanted to go.

Fortunately I live close to Heathrow, so it only a short taxi ride to the airport.

Hi David

I'll look forward to meeting you at Heathrow. I haven't yet booked any optional trips, as I'm away at the moment so haven't yet got my pack from JY. I'm in London for the T de F, went to the Mall today, a terrific atmosphere. I also went to Leeds on Saturday. I go home to Weymouth on Wednesday. Shame we haven't got in touch earlier, as we could possibly have met up while I'm in London.

Best wishes

Marion

I'm intending to go to the cinema in Shaftesbury Ave this afternoon, then go for a meal probably curry in Brick Lane, then watch the football, but could change some of those plans. Best wishes, Marion.

Hi Marion

Sorry I didn't see you message until this evening - busy at work!! Hope you enjoyed the TdF and your curry - you certainly can't do better than Brick Lane - lots of choice. Not so keen on the football - will be glad when its over!!

Hi David

Shame we didn't manage to meet up. I met someone prior to the Cambodia holiday who lived fairly near me, and it was nice to recognise a friendly face at the airport.

The football was terrific, 7-1 as you no doubt know! A lot of hilarity in the bar where I was watching it.

I doubt if I'll be in London again before the holiday, so I'll look forward to meeting you in October.

Best wishes. Marion.

Message for Jacky Hopley

Hi Jacky, just to let you know that I have booked the London Hounslow Travelodge for 5th Oct and 17th Oct. I have stayed there before, and it's very close to Hounslow Central tube station, which is very convenient for Heathrow. I look forward to meeting you in October, best wishes, Marion.

Hi. I am booked on this holiday too on 6th October. One of those places that I have always wanted to visit. Will have to get a flight from Manchester to Heathrow and then find a hotel for an overnight stay. I am a newby to JY as well. Any tips would be very useful from anyone who is going or has gone before. Thankyou.

Hi jycmayne

This will be my 2nd holiday with JY, but I went on quite a few singles holidays with another company (who are now defunct) several years ago. I have been very impressed by JY. Our baggage went missing en route to Thailand, and our rep was extremely efficient at getting it sorted out. Everything else went like clockwork, and in spite of a heavy schedule, our transport and guides were always exactly where and when they were supposed to be.

I don't really have any tips as I haven't been to the States before, but the information sent by JY is incredibly comprehensive, and there are excellent reviews and tips within this forum.

I'll look forward to meeting you at Heathrow. As I have mentioned above, I've booked the travelodge at Hounslow, which is excellent value for money, and has easy access to Heathrow. Let me know if you have any other questions. Best wishes, Marion.

Hi again jycmayne

If you look further down this forum to 2nd July, there is a posting headed 'new member' by ClaireBear. This contains a link to a brilliant blog by Mick W which gives a fantastically detailed review of the Golden West holiday.

Best wishes, Marion.

I've just booked this trip! It's somewhere I've always fancied going. It will be my 7th JY trip and the first long-haul. I'll be flying down from Aberdeen early on the 6th. Really looking forward to it.

I've done long hauls before, but not been to the States. Sounds like a great tour.

I'll look forward to meeting you at Heathrow.

Hello

Looks like we've got a lot of people who like me have always wanted to go the States, its my second holiday with JY and my first long haul holiday so will be interested to see how it compares, but if its as good as my first trip then we should all have a good time and see some interesting places. Mick's blog really sells the trip and well worth a read.

Look forward to see everyone.
