Is anyone going on this trip Sept 23 - NOT the 17 day one to Mt Rushmore etc. It seems that people are mixing up the two names of tours in previous threads. Also would love to hear reviews of those who have been on this previously. Also if you have been at that time of year what sort of temperatures one can expect as it appears to be 109 plus at present!

I'm going! This will be my first trip with Just You. It's also my first ever trip to America. It's a belated 50th birthday present to myself since I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon. I hope it'll be a little cooler then.

Hi Rose/Marilyn,

Although I'm not on your trip (doing the longer version on 23rd) I did this holiday in June 2011. I've been to varous areas of the States many times and the weather will still be hot especially in Phoenix & Vegas. It will get cool on a night in Flagstaff because of the altitude (fleece or light jacket).

Its a nice holiday but wish it had been longer, its very hectic like all touring holidays but i'm sure you'll have a great time.

Hi, I`m going on this trip from London on 23rd Sept. This will be my second JY trip. I`ve been to the States many times but only to the coasts. The scenery on this trip looks spectacular. I thought the temps would be about 30 degrees when we go BUT I could be wrong!

To all of you who are going on this tour. YOU WILL ENJOY IT!!

Last year I did the longer tour with Travelsphere including Yellowstone and Little Big Horn. The sights at Bryce Canyon (my favourite) are better than the photos you may have seen. Monument Valley is all what you expect and more (take the 4x4 ride for the close up views). Do take the optional boat cruise on Lake Powell. It will be relaxing cruising on the water after the desert! And then there is Grand Canyon and also Sedona! There will be some early morning starts. Remember, Flagstaff is a Route 66 town so there is the memorabilia and diners.

While in Vegas, experience the Bellagio fountains at night. If you have a camcorder, video one of the songs with the dancing fountains, they are every 15 minutes in the evening, but get near a loudspeaker to hear the music. See You Tube for a sample, Frank Sinatra ‘Fly me to the Moon ‘ is a good one. It must be a good 30 mins walk from the Stratosphere hotel to the main hotels on the strip, so a taxi is advised. Do visit the Venetian, Caesars Palace and Fremont St for the light show.

Trust you have a good time and write a review

Thanks, Mick. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the photos. It looks fantastic (and also very hot). It gives me a good idea of what to expect.

Thank you Malcolm and Mick for your helpful replies. Mick also gave me very good advice last year, when I was previously going on this tour but had to cancel for health reasons.

Also glad to hear from Jan and Marilyn - this particular tour does not seem to get mentioned and I wondered if I was the only one going!! Look forward to meeting you.

Perhaps this is more a question for the ladies, but would trainers be satisfactory for walking any of the trails at the canyons. Not sure how much time we have anyway for walking but I seem to remember last year a lady told me to bring suitable walking footwear. Not sure exactly what she meant but dont want to come armed with walking boots if they are not necessary.

Mick: I also want to say how wonderful your photos are and I am really looking forward to the trip. I think the start of the tour is different from previous years, ie no tour of Phoenix, no mention of Kanab etc. I am glad you mentioned the 4x4 excursion as I couldnt decide whether to book it or not together with the Lake Powell trip, but think I will.

Rose,

Can't remember anyone on our trip in specific walking shoes, everyone in trainers for walking at the Grand Canyon, Zion & Bryce.

pleased you liked the photos, think Kanab was been phased out on our trip although was one of the places i wanted to see been a western fan and lots were made there. Think they have a better route now because around that area we seemed to go up and down the same road to visit Bryce and believe you stay in the area now.
