Hi Everyone. I kinda discovered this site via a wanderlust website. I'm Rachel, almost 30 and kinda just want to escape. Problem is all my friends are either married, getting married, having babies or just generally let me down. I'm big on family and usually go away with them, but I want to break away from that too. I need to figure out me.

I've never actually been away on my own, although I'd say I'm not scared to try it either. It's just everyone else that puts doubts into my mind weather I can or can't. So as I'm soon to turn the big 3-0, ive decided as a treat to myself i'd do something out of character. So am looking for a break.

Not yet looked properly through the trips so thats my next task. As i'm looking forward to making friends via these with the same sense of adventure.

The only Q, i do have is this... I'm disabled, 3ft8" in height. I'll not confuse with the name of my condition. But that wouldn't be an issue would it? I've travelled to the US and places before. But on group trips, it shouldn't be right?

Anyways enough of me talking... I'm going to see what holidays are about.

Hello there

First of all welcome, and there is so much choice to choose from with these holidays.

With regard to your disability that might rule out some holidays but then again it might not. You do have to be able to manage travelling etc and what is on offer within the holiday by yourself unless you are taking a carer to assist you.

I would find a holiday you like and maybe ring the office and chat through the holiday and your needs with them.

If I can help with anything else just ask I have my 9th JY tour booked leaving next week.

Thank you Hayley / Cindy. My disability doesn't actually stop me from doing alot, except getting on rides at theme parks.. due to height limits haha! However I occasionally get tired walking long distances, especially if i'm trying to keep up with everyone else. As people do walk fast. But other than that, theres nothing really that I'd need help with.

I was looking at the America Golden West & Also the Route 66 one, as that is a BIG dream. I've just gotta check with work as to if i can get upto 16+ days off.. at what could be a busy time of the year.

Is there a mixture of ages that go on such trips? xx

Welcomeo JY.

With regards to walking long distances, customer services will be able to tell you how much walking the holiday you wish to go on has. I find the holidays I've been on, people go at different paces so don't let that put you off. I've done about 9 holidays. The age ranges does vary from 20's up to late 70's - majority have been 40's plus. But dont let age put you off - people mix well regardless of age. Women tend to outnumber the men. Small number in group has been 16 and largest 40.

Hi,

I can't imagine it being much of a problem. Obviously i don't advise doing the highlights of Peru however the majority of tours are physically quite manageable and should an excursion be too physically demanding, you can always opt out.

JY customers are generally a lovely lot and would be happy to help should you need it hehe.

Thanks

Mark

Rachel,

I've done 9 JY holidays (USA & Europe) and can't see why any of the ones i've done would be a problem to you, get booked and have a great time.

Hi Rachel,

Welcome to JY! I did the America's Golden West tour just over 2 years ago, my first long haul tour and loved it. There's not a huge amount of walking involved so I'd say it'd be a great holiday to start with. San Francisco is beautiful, LA and Palm Springs interesting and fun places to visit. But for me the highlight was Vegas and the Grand Canyon - wow! So I'd say go for it and you won't regret it!

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Rachel,

With regard to the Golden West trip, please be aware that some of the days do involve quite a long time on the coach. That being said, there are always "breaks" during that time, so if you can cope with a few hours sitting on the coach you should be fine.

I've done this trip twice and thoroughly enjoyed it every time.

If sitting on a coach for long distances is a problem, why not try something nearer - in Europe, perhaps?

Anyway, good luck with wherever you choose. As another poster pointed out JY holidaymakers are great and if you do have any problems, either they, or your Tour Manager (all of whom do a fantastic job) will be able to help you.

Hi Rachel

Not sure what happened to my lastg post as I( was not able to complete it. I am sure you will find something suitable for your first holiday with Just You. Not all holidays involve a lot of walking as someone has already mentioned you can always opt out when you want to. No one minds and everyone is friendly.

Regards
