I am not ion this holiday but I do have my 9th JY tour booked, I can understand you feel nervous but honestly they are such good fun and your so well looked after. I hope that someone has done this tour can answer you. If you want to know how many people are booked age range and make female ratio. I would suggest you post that question on the editors board and Ben will be able to help you or ring the girls in the office.

Good luck

Cindy

Hi

I did this holiday last year, trust me this is a superb trip which will stay long in the memory. The age range in my particular group ranged between 30s to 70s, with the majority I'd say in the 50s/60s. I think the group size was around 25. Age is a frequent topic on here, but on my 3 JY trips everyone has got on really well and I've never found it an issue (I'm in my 40s). Looking at other threads on the same topic, this seems to be a view shared by the vast majority of travellers.

Hope this helps.

Michael.

Hi

Welcome to Just You community. You can find out the age range of people travelling on the tour you have booked by asking the 'editor', but generally on Just You holiday there is a wide age range from 20s to 80s. It all depends on which holiday it is. If I were you, I would not worry too much about age ranges as at the end of the day age is just a number. I have been on 4 Just You holidays and all have been wonderful. You meet people of all ages and experiences. If you get on well with people of all ages, then you have nothing to worry about. Travelling with Just You is great as they take good care of you. Of course, everyone feels nervous when thinking of going on a holiday on their own, but you will find your nervousness disappear as soon as you meet your fellow travellers at the airport. I would just say this - if you really fancy the Canada Rockies holiday then go ahead and book it. I met a lady last year on the Holyland trip who has been on the Canada Rockies holiday and she told me that it was a wonderful holiday and she had a great time. This is on my long list of destinations to visit.

Hello,

This is a trip I am hoping to do next year as well, possibly May or September. I've done one other JY trip which was a short visit to Luxembourg so this will be my first long haul holiday alone/with JY. Good to know someone else is thinking about this for next year.

Kind regards

Ann

Hi,

Canada is a great place. Like all the other regulars to this forum, age and first timer questions come up and time and again and i can reassure you that you will not have a problem. About half will be first timers as well, and about half will have done other JY tours.

Thanks

Hi there. I've just booked on the 10th Sept trip to Canada and the Rockies. My first time alone as well, but everybody seems to have really positive comments and you have to bite the bullet don't you!!

Maybe we'll be fellow travellers :)

Hello again Rich,

I'm on the 10 September trip as well, I mmade an enquiry about numbers/ages a couple of days ago and was advise that at that time there were 26 people on the trip, 22 female and 4 male with an age range between early 30s and mid 70s. So I think it is a good mix.

Hope you pluck up the courage to book, you won't regret it.

Kind regards

Ann

Hello Rich:

JY’s monitors or editors might refuse this post and quite understandably!

Your thread caught my eye as it was ‘part’ of a “Holiday of a Lifetime” I decided to spoil myself with two years ago. I also added a week-long cruise up the Inside Passage into Alaska but that’s by-the-by (but super too!)

Before making any comment, I checked out JY’s itinerary and could not believe that they are not using the Rocky Mountaineer train for its two-day journey through the Rocky Mountains. I have double-checked by Googling the Trans-Canada Highway to make doubly sure that that’s not a railway. It’s not – it is, of course, a motorway (in UK terms). I have no doubt that that will be (almost!) equally fantastic.

As I say I have no intention to dismiss JY’s trip and you must follow the favourable opinions of those who’ve done it and enjoyed it. And, of course, the major appeal perhaps for you, as for many of us, is the company of mostly single people. On the trip I referred to above, I was one of just two singletons!

But if that is not your primary consideration, I would urge you to enquire elsewhere, including high street agencies – as I did – solely to ensure a fully-escorted tour. The Rocky Mountaineer train is fabulous in itself and the best way to encounter the Rockies imho. If you can afford the extra, go for the Gold Leaf option which is not just pure luxury but transports you in double-deck carriages with a overall glass-domed roof in order for passengers to look up and all around at the wonderful mountainous vistas without hindrance. But Red Leaf will still be an excellent second-best choice!

Whatever you decide, be sure to pay for JY’s optional tour to Lake Louise which is just fabulous – a beautiful sight which fully justifies that overused adjective.

If this is published, I congratulate JustYou’s staff for allowing this recommendation to be posted! Thank you.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the comment you made here.

Just You ran a Rocky Mountaineer tour in 2011 but it was decided to rest it for a few seasons as it wasn't as popular current tour. We appreciate that this is a holiday 'must' for some travellers and our sister company, Travelsphere, has two tours that feature this. One as part of the Grand Tour of Canada trip and the other on the Rockies, Rail and an Alaskan cruise tour.

We have had some suggestions to include the Rocky Mountaineer as a "one-off" similar to the tours we launched in January and this is being considered by product team.

Kind regards,

Julia

Hi Julia:

Thank you so much for allowing my contribution so graciously! I had to feel pretty strongly about it to be so vociferous.

Without being at all patronising, the Mountaineer train does add considerably to the overall cost, the Gold Leaf option even more at over £500 extra for the two day journey! However I am interested to read that you did provide such a tour – the same year as I went as it happens! – and obviously if it didn’t prove to be viable commercially, then no point in continuing with it.

But ignorant of that when I wrote, as well as being unaware that Travelsphere has two tours that include the RM, I just wanted to make sure that Rich was aware of what he might be missing: what to me was an outstanding highlight of that particular holiday and worth the extra.

OTOH, he will doubtless be much better off enjoying the company of so many like-minded fellow-travellers which my 2011 adventure completely lacked! Which is why I am also about to book another “Holiday of a Lifetime” – on the other side of the world this time: to China – with JustYou! Hopefully, the first of many 🙂

Sincerely,

Mike

Hi Julia,

I think you will find that there are likeminded people like me who would like JY to do train journeys across Canada including the Rocky mountaineer.

Myself being a Train Geek would love to do the entire journey from Toronto to Vancover with stop offs and excursions on the way.

You mention Travelsphere do said holiday. Have infact received Travelsphere brochure today with the Rail holiday but not interested in the Alaskan cruise part of the holiday.

Hopefully JY will reconsider Rail holidays in Canada for 2014/15. I for one would prefer JY as I had excellent holiday in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand last year.

Mike -

I believe that it is important that where we can publish feedback like yours, we should and as long as there are no comments that would cause offense to the wider community - I'm happy to do this. Your point about giving Rich information about what he would be missing is one of the main reasons I published your message.

I hope you have a wonderful time in China - I've never been but it is a destination I would love to visit and should you post a review after your trip, I very much look forward to reading it.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Going alone for the first time is scary, but I promise you won`t regret it. I did it last year, it was the last thing I expected to find myself doing, but I had a fantastic time and gained the confidence to do it again. I am going to Cilento coast in two weeks time and thinking about my "holiday of a lifetime to New Zealand". As for the age range, it really doesn`t matter, my group were all lovely people between about 30 and 85. That is just one of the reasons I like JY holidays. Go for it and let us know what you decide.
