Hi Linda

I have been on two JY cruises - Portugal and Venice.

I have already booked for the Rhine cruise and have booked the trip going on 16 July as hopefully the weather would be better

than going later in the year.

Hi Linda54,

I did this cruise last July and the scenery along the Rhine Valley gorge is not to be missed. If you're lucky, you might even get to spend two or three hours in Strasbourg during the day, prior to settling on board. Use this time wisely, for if you do the Strasbourg by night excursion, the tourist boat used along the canals is not the photographers' friend as seating is in two columns, where passengers sit around six abreast. The windows curve around the roof, so although you get a great upward view, most attempts at photography would be distorted.

Food and drink is first class, although if you are savouring after German beverages, just be mindful that the cruise company is French, serving French alcoholic drinks - not that there is anything wrong with that of course. However, there are plenty of opportunities in Rudesheim to indulge in the Gerrman stuff!

What comes as a shock to most people is how cold it can get on the outdoor observation deck, so maybe dress in layers?

Keep you ears open at all times, as the cruise boat will have other people on board as well as JY clients. There is truly a great international atmosphere, as announcements (both pre-recorded and live) are made in French, German and English, but useful information is sometimes communicated this way.

As well as the official JY holiday itinerary, the crew also provide some light entertainment activities, as well as an early morning exercise class!!!

Hi Steve

Thanks for your very informative reply. I think I will go ahead and book it for the July. I was just a bit concerned that it might be a bit too hot in July, but you mention that it was actually quite cool at times. Linda

Let me be honest - after a sunny start in Strasbourg (about 29 degrees), the cruise itself was marred by overcast weather with periodic showers! The UK was not the only country for which Summer was a washout... Still a very enjoyable holiday though and I'm sure that you'll have a great time.

Yes my late husband and I went on this cruise on the Swiss Emerald ship in 2010. It was wonderful. The crew were excellent and the food fantastic. The places of interest were exactly that! ... Interesting! And we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The people we met were really nice. I can recommend this type of holiday

Thanks for that Sylvia. I have now booked - I went for the 13th August in the hope of getting some decent weather. Really looking forward to it. It's a holiday I've wanted to do for several years and am glad I am finally getting to go.
