Hello

I am going to China at Christmas and was wondering how much money I need to take and which currency is the best. I am also doing 4 nights in Hong Kong if someone could help answer my questions I would be grateful.

Many thanks Julie

Hi Julie

I went to China with the Yangtze Add On in September. Take about £150.00 in Remimbi. The notes are called Yuan. Take about £400.00 in a mix of. £10.00 and £20.00 notes. Note that these bank notes MUST be clean, not written on or crumpled up. DO NOT take £50.00 notes as the Chinese do not know what they are. Hotels will change the Bank of England notes. I assume that you live in England or Wales, if not, do not take Irish or Scottish notes. This amount of cash should be ample for your day to day expenses. Use your credit card for any large expense that you may make. Faulty goods should be covered by your credit card, but not a debit card. Finally you will be approached by many street traders, as far as they are concerned a NO is just a starting point. Always try to knock down prices, even in shops. Offer a quarter of the asking price, you will be surprised at how much you can get off.

You are in for a great holiday
