Hello Jenny,

Does your New Zealand trip arrive in Auckland around 29th October?

If so you will be meeting up with me and some others that have been in Singapore and Australia then.

Not sure the number that will be doing the New Zealand leg but I was told a while back it was aound 9 of us. That was before close of the trip so the number could be more!

Hi Cindy

Thanks for your message. I have been wondering what type of clothing to pack. Are we likely to need posh stuff or is it all quite casual ? Also, is it correct that some hotels have laundry facilities ?

HI JENNY,

when ever I go on a tour like this I go for layers of clothes, as the climate can change from one area to another, NO POSH clothes needed, just smart casual and defo comfy as there is a lot of sitting on a coach. The only time I needed warm clothes was when on the Franz Joseph snow capped mountain, Fleece and anorak and gloves and sturdy shoes needed for that. There is washing machine in some hotels they do sell washing powder sachets as well, just bear in mind that there can be a queue and allow for things to dry if they can't be tumbled. I ended up double up with someone else to save time..

Hi Jenny,

lets hope you do not have to wait around for us to arrive. Hopefully they will take you to the hotel and check in and I expect we will all go on the sightseeing tour from the hotel together.

Hi Jenny

I've just read your message and I am going on the Hong Kong/New Zealand tour on 24th October and very much looking forward to it. I am a Jennie as well so that could be a bit confusing. Looks like we will be meeting others who have already been away to Australia before meeting up with us. Should be interesting.

ps at least so far we all have different surname initials. I could use my passport name but then won't know if anyone is talking to me!

Hi Jenny R and Eric and Jenny P

Yes it could be a bit confusing if there are 3 Jenny's. I'm sure we will work it out. Look forward to seeing you and to meeting Eric when we get to Auckland. I shall pack lots of layers as it could be very changeable temperatures just like here!

Hi all October 2012 group, I am going in February next and would be grateful for any advice you can give.

Should I pay extra to upgrade on flight?

How much money would you recommend is needed for spending meals etc?

Would be grateful for any info. from those who have done the trip.

Hi Jennie,

At present at Franz Josef Glacier in the South Island of New Zealand on our 2nd week of the New Zealand tour. New Zealand is Fantastic, views, people everything.

I am finding New Zealand a lot cheaper than Australia. The majority who did the Hong Kong segment, which I did not do, say that they found HK expensive. A main course meal in NZ is around 30/40 NZ dollars. Coffee is about 4 dollars and sandwiches are about the same.

A welcome dinner is in Auckland and when you get to Blenheim we had an included dinner on a river boat.

We were supposed to have a helicopter ride to the glacier today but the weather cancelled that. Tomorrow now hopefully. This is an extra of course.

Regarding upgrading of your flight. I infact have done this both ways to Australia. Most of the group are in cattle class but have not heard of any complaints. One on our Australian leg of the tour said she would upgrade on the return from Melbourne because she felt cramped. Our flights are by Quantas but if you are doing HK and New Zealand you will be flying Air New Zealand. Upgrades are you personal choice, but can be expensive. My seat was fantastic because it folded out to a flat bed, and also could be positioned in all sorts of positions.

Hope this helps, if anything else I can tell you I will be back in the UK in 8/9 days.

PS.

Regarding travel money, those who bought travelers check had great difficulty in changing them and said they thought the costs of changing them especially in HK were bad. Personally I have a prepaid visa card for my holiday money. The best one I have found is Called Caxton FX. They do not charge ATM fees like some pre paid cards. Check the internet out as there are loads more similar cards.

Eric.

Thanks so much that is very helpful. I have a post office credit card and they do not make any charges for use overseas It is a mastercard any idea if they will take that in most eating places??
