Welcome Pat

Please don't worry about meal times, what holiday have you got in mind as the eating arrangements can vary.

When I did Tuscany and Austria and Poland it was breakfast in hotel and then snack while out and about so people just buddy up and go where ever, so if someone wants a sandwich then go with them if someone want a full on meal tag along with them. Then back to hotel for dinner at the hotel.

If you are looking at say a USA tour then breakfast is normally in the hotel then lunch and dinner would be up to you to sort out,

There are normally one or two dinners (tea) included along the way, I have never ever in all the 8 tours had a meal on my own so please try and not panic, also the tour manager should look out and sort local restrauntes or eateries whithin the local area so she/he can point you in the right direction. They also say things like I will be in reception at ( a time) and if anybody still has not sorted tea/dinner out they will show you the way.

You will find on a tour you will not be on your own unless you want to be on your own.

I hope that makes sense to you.

I have done 8 tours so if I can help you at all please just ask..

Hi Patb

And a warm welcome to the Just You Community page. I can certainly relate to your issue about meal time sitting arrangements. In my experience of 14 Just You holidays, I have found that there are several different systems in place. But generally No one is left alone. And normally we are all seated together when it is organised meal arrangements. Very often, Your Assigned experienced Tour Manager may encourage folk to move around at different meal times. However this could be dependant on the Hotel where you are based.. But when I go away with Just You, I tend to try and sit with different folk and different tables on every meal. And thus far has never caused any issues or problems. Please dont let a small thing, prevent you from making a booking.

If I Can be of further assistance, Please feel free to get in touch.

All the very best in your quest for fun and adventure

Regards Andy

Don't think about it just do it - I have! The beauty of JustYou is that everybody is travelling on their own so there will always be somebody to sit with on coaches / buses / meal tables. If you want to travel it is a far safer bet than going with a group where everybody else could be with family or friends and you're always the "extra" one. Happy travelling!

I've done 5 JY holdays and never eaten on my own, don't worry.

If its a single hotel holiday you'll find tables are designated for your group (usually 6 or 8+ of you per table).

On a touring holiday (multiple hotels) tables may not be designated but people just sit together, never seen anyone on their own.

One piece of advice its a good idea to move around the tables that way you meet more people.

Hi PatB

I've only done one holiday with JY, a long weekend to Luxembourg. On my holiday meals were as follows:- Breakfast, included, wasn't at a set time but as something is usually organised, either a trip or transit to another hotel, then there were usually plenty of your fellow travellers in the restraunt, just join a table with your fellow guests. Lunch was not included, if it's an excursion day then you will probably find there will be plenty of others eating in the same place. Dinner was included, this was at a set time and we had a number of large reserved tables, you just join one and soon you will be chatting with the others and making friends. Many of us used to meet in the bar before dinner and it allowed us to "Unwind", for the ladies who are nervous about being unaccompanied in a bar then this was an ideal way to meet, chat and make friends. Many of us were in the bar after the meal to further unwind!

Breakfast for us in Luxembourg was Continental, obviously, with some hot extras such as bacon, scrambled egg and toast. Lunch was usually light cafe food. Dinner was usually 3 course. I am not the most adventurous eater, my mates and family say fussy! I managed very well. If it was beef or fish then they would usually rustle up a chicken portion for me, just ask.

PS Your question was not pathetic, it's wise to ask. As you've plucked up enough courage to ask then you will probably have enough courage to talk to your fellow passengers. My advice is to make friends with your fellow travellers, meet the others in the bar before dinner - even if you don't drink - there will almost certainly be some of the others there. Dress for the evening meals was always "smart casual" after all we are only on holiday.

If there are any more questions then please ask.

Enjoy your holiday

Hi Pat

I did my first JY trip last year and I have to say I wish I'd have done it sooner. I did the America's Golden West tour and right from the start everyone was so friendly and people got along from the start. You'll probably find, as I did, that you'll click with certain people more than others and make your own arrangements together for when you want to go for dinner etc...so I doubt you'll ever find yourself in the situation where you're eating alone.

If I could give you one last tip....book it now! The holidays are so well organised you won't regret it....I've just booked my second trip with JY to Vietnam.

Best Wishes...Caroline

Like you the thing that I dread is eating on my own! Friends of mine who have travelled with Just You before have told me that usually there are designated Just You tables in the hotel dining rooms - I do hope they are right as on their recommendation I have booked to go to Croatia on 1st May for my first taste on traveling on my own.

Maybe one of you 'old hands' can offer Pat and me the benefit of your experience?

I've only done one trip to Cilento last year. We had large tables designated for the group and were encouraged to move around to mix with people. Breakfast was buffet style and dinner was waiter served. Having the large tables was a lovely way of getting to know different people. Most people used to meet up in the bar beforehand. You will find people very friendly and on the whole asy to mix with. When out on trips most people stick together when finding places to eat.

Don't be scared to do it Pat. You will have a great time!

Mulberry see you on the 1st! Lots of nice little bars and eateries in Rabac!

Hi PatB - I am in the same boat and am pondering booking my first JY holiday to Bulgaria. I feel demoralised eating on my own on holiday but equally don't want others to feel sorry for me and feel obligated to invite me to eat with them! Last year saw the last time I will pay a single suppliment I hope!

I am 43 though so wonder whether my choice of Bulgaria is going to be the right one? Any advice?

thanks

Lisa

Hello Pat and Jean,

I have just taken the plunge and booked my first holiday with Just You. Going to the Costa de la Luz on 8th May, and like you am also nervous and hoping it will be all right. But it's no good thinking about it, just do it, otherwise we'll never know! It can't be worse than being completely alone. Hope to hear that you've decided to book a holiday.

Dot

Don't worry I went on 1st hol last August to Luxembourg no problem about meal seating arrangements as everybody mixed and sat at different tables each time. Peter Jordan
